Going Gonzo: SGV Shootout Recap

By Alex A. Gonzalez

El Monte – Village Christian topped San Dimas Saturday afternoon to claim San Gabriel Valley Shootout Champs at Arroyo High School.

The annual 7-on-7 tournament consisted of 16 high schools from across the area that included teams such as Diamond Bar, Don Lugo, Chino, and Keppel, to name a few. With that said, some teams looked ready for the regular season, and others required more time on the practice field.

Listed below are five takeaways that I took from this year’s SGV Shootout.

Baldwin Park and first-year head coach Robert Maxie are primed to make some serious noise this Fall.

Monrovia quarterback Brian Salazar Jr. will have a better year passing the ball this year than last.

Diamond Bar is going to repeat as Hacienda league champs.

Seeing Mark Keppel make an appearance showed me that they are trying to put a competitive product on the field for 2023.

Although San Dimas is a run-heavy team, their passing attack could balance their offense
