Fanview Lite: August 8, 2010

Carlos Mota (above) or Josh Simangunsong...Who will or will there be a next thousand-yard back at Temple City?

T-Minus-32 Days until “The Mid Valley Classic”

Good afternoon!

A rare Sunday posting of Fanview Lite, but this is one of the amenities staycation provides…I mean we all can’t be off fishing with M-Town assistant Mike Minter…

Kind of bummed about the Dodgers release of Garrett Anderson… His play brought back memories of another aging lefthanded slugger, hitting under “The Mendoza Line”, signed by Los Angeles; Boog Powell.

Someone in the know, speaking to me about Schurr’s Aaron Cantu spoke specifically about his quick release…You can see it on the highlight video linked to our site.

With a shelf full of running backs around him and defense loaded with studs along side him…West Covina’s Chris Solomon is only a junior year this year but poised to be one of ‘the’ most, high end, versatile players in the Southeast this season. Watch.

While I don’t want to take anything away from the coming season, just a friendly reminder in February we will be holding our second annual Mid Valley Draft…

Some of the things I want to see in 2010: I want to see; Temple City’s Carlos Mota carry the football…and if there will be another 1,000-yard back in the Home of the Camellias…If Rodney Arnett breaks through for Arcadia…The performance of the Arroyo offensive line…Jose Nunez go from leading tackler to leading passer for Azusa…Mario Rodriguez at Baldwin Park…What Josh Adame (BG), Adam Contreras (Cal), Garrett Pendleton (Bonita), and Billy Livingston (Covina), among others, are going to do at quarterback…

In his third season as the Indians starter, Burroughs quarterback Lucas Yanez intrigues me as well…

Like we talked about in the recent thread with “Dan” and “Oso Viejo” so much of what the quarterbacks mentioned do will be key to how far they go this fall…Of course I know you can say that about every team…these are just the guys that caught my eye today…

Monrovia’s Nick Bueno caught my eye when I saw his highlight video last night…the dude stops and starts like a prep version of Barry Sanders…

Is Kanye West’s “Amazing” the song of choice for highlight videos now?

For as slick as he was on the football field, I expected a smoother delivery from Jerry Rice.

When in front of millions, with national television audience, the only safe place to preach the salvation of Jesus Christ, the love of Christ, and the Spirit of Christ…is at the Pro Football Hall of Fame induction ceremony.

I can feel the producers and directors all squirming through my flat screen when one of these guys give thanks to God…I don’t believe its because these people are anti-God…I believe  its because we live in a climate of total and absolute fear that we will offend somebody.

(looking back) Some of the best memories I have when I was a kid was the ability to not let anything offend me/us…Usually when somebody bagged on me for being the only non-Roman Catholic, white boy, on the block with pointed ears; I was able to counter with a “Blank You” and we all moved on to common interests like hatred of the Cowboys and Vikings…And never fretted about it again…

Dick LeBeau was classy…John Randle seemed humbled…and Emmitt, the Cowboy, was terrific.

Chris Berman on the other hand…Remember when we thought this guy was cool about twenty years ago?…His schtick stinks…as well as his (and others) incessant pandering about how Katrina devastated New Orleans…Five years ago!

Did anyone constantly harp on how great it was for the recovering city of New York, only six years after 911, to have the Giants beat New England in the Super Bowl?

A year ago today I was in Portland, Maine…having my first helping of lobster for the day. Loved Portland, nice place, great views, weak bookstore, nice people… Got off the toll roads back to Boston and drove the Maine coast…

Have you ever driven the Maine coast? It’s almost as pretty as Garay to Acosta…

Last Add Chris Solomon: WestCo HC Mike Maggiore confirmed last December, during an “All Mid Valley” team struggle by our staff, over pizza, that Solomon did not intercept 14 passes as listed in MaxPreps… It was an entry error.

“Football Rush Week” is coming…August 23-27.

Stay thirsty my friends…
