NorRock is Back

Norwalk HC Ruben Guerrero surrounded by his stacked backfield.

(Norwalk) – The Norwalk Lancers had a rough year last year, going 3-7 and finishing last in the tough Gateway league.

In 2022 head coach Ruben Guerrero had the Lancers 10-2 and quarterfinalist losing to the eventual CIF champions Muir.

Guerrero, 19-14 as head coach, is a Norwalk alum and longtime assistant with short stops at Glenn and St. John Bosco.

“This year these guys have a good head on their shoulders. They’re an old-school high energy ball club. They stick together after practice and play catch we have to chase them off the field. That’s very encouraging,” said Guerrero.

Senior Ezra Mueller will be the lead running back for Guerrero’s double wing offense. Mueller had 1,779 yards, 22-touchdowns while averaging 9.41 yards per carry last year. He is the younger brother of Michael Mueller who led the Lancers in rushing in 2022.

There is also a trio of junior running backs who are going to get their share of carries. Derek Sandoval and Diego Cerritos are fighting for a starting position as well as Daron Walker Anderson who will be Mueller’s back up at the three back.

Leading the way for the running backs will be fullback Papo Leiataua (6’0” 235lbs) and anchors O-line seniors Bobby Mosqueda (6’1” 250lbs) and Anthony Lemus (6’3” 260lbs). Athlete Tyler Burton will be seeing action all over the field as well.

Guerrero has also added to the coaching staff bringing in former Sunny Hills head coach Dave Wilde and long-time Jesse Ceniceros assistant George Hernandez.

The Lancers open up the season with Montebello and will be in the Mid Cities League this year.

It’s more so the AD. Once they get rid of her, Glenn sports can amount to something. She is in over her head.

There is an alumni group. I have yet to be added. I would love to discuss the real problems

I wonder if there is an alumni football page on Facebook and do they know what is going on with the program from the coaches hitting the players and the administration and AD protecting the coach

Definitely no different. The cheer coordinator used to charge us parents for being late and a bunch of other fees. She took money away from hard working parents with no consequence. I pulled my kids from the program. A lot of parents have went to other Pop Warner leagues like Bellflower, La Mirada, Norwalk Santa Fe Springs, Los Alamitos.

The athletic director protects the coach always even in his wrongdoing to our kids. He needs to face consequences for his behavior. He always hides from parents even after the situation. He hid and refused to speak to parents. He did not even offer an apology. He even told our kids he was leaving many times and still never really left. A lot of mind games with our kids. Kids have left to Norwalk, La Mirada, Inglewood, Crenshaw, Santa Fe and other schools.

Wow if that is the case the whole coaching staff should be fired, it seems like the AD and Administration are protecting the HC for some unknown reason. Assistant Coaches are the reflection of the Head Coach but I guess this “Head Coach” has protection from the administration. I wonder of those parents went to the district or where they advised by the school administration not to and gave them a choice of what they want administration to do to protect themselves

All of the hype around Elijhaa Penny and look what he has delivered nothing. It makes you wonder if he really retired or was ran out of the league. All of your players have transferred because of you.

The youth program on site is no different. Parents be careful. Same people running the HS and youth football program.

Great to see the Transfers from Glenn doing well under new Leadership at Norwalk High. Sad what they had to deal with at John Glenn. The reason players left were two of the Main coaches at JG were physically hitting and treating players badly hazing as well. Players have transferred to neighboring schools like Norwalk and La Mirada due to not feeling safe within the program. I believe the two coaches were fired and banned. Sadly there is no accountability within that program and the Players are suffering because of it.

Glenn’s HC is not stable, sloppily ran program, a lot of promises no results, not enough funding, late practices, drama 24/7. A lot of kids transferred.
