MVS Coverage Area Leagues

Walnut will battle in the competitive Hacienda League (Photo by Duane Barker).

With the re-leaguing that took place for 2024 it was time for us to make some adjustments. This year there are 19 different leagues in our coverage area. That doesn’t mean we will cover every team in all 19 leagues but that there are teams that we cover in each league. For instance in the newly formed Mesquite League there are six teams that make up the league but only two that are in our area – Maranatha and Whittier Christian. However in leagues such as the Mission Valley, Rio Hondo and the Almont we cover all six teams in each league. When we say “coverage area” it means game stories for these teams, Top Ten eligibility and they will be mentioned in our weekly “Game Night” and “Scoreboard” Features. The season kicks off Thursday August 22.

Here are the Coverage Area Leagues:

    @Detached Observer,

    BINGO!!!! Except I wouldn’t call La Mirada a have not. Add La Setna to the Gateway and remove Dominguez and Bellflower and it’ll be even better!

    Campbell Hall dropped football . They announced this spring . The coach was upset , saying they had almost 30 returning players ; thus, a 3 team “ league”

    Gateway is haves and have nots . The haves are all very good , and virtually guaranteed playoff spots
    Haves : Warren,Downey, Mayfair

    Have nots: LaMirada Dominguez , Bellflower

    I think there has to be four teams to constitute a league , but CIF has gotten fuzzy on this issue since the Brethren Christian fiasco of 2016

    Gold Coast split into two Divisions several years ago as Sierra Canyon became too good for ordinary squads . Then Paraclete left to join Catholic Association
    I think Campbell Hall was then in that Lower division and I’m not sure what happened to them this year …..?????? Rio , Brentwood and cellar dweller Viewpoint remain

    A couple of quick takes. The Gateway League is a monster. One of the toughest in the SS. The Gold Coast is not a league. What’s next a one team league like La Serna is in?
