Thursday October 31
Northview (9-0) at Baldwin Park (5-4)
Baldwin Park got off to a slow start but the Braves have bounced back with five wins in their last six games including a victory last week over Diamond Ranch. Jake Garcia has had a big season for the Braves throwing for over 1700 yards and 21 touchdowns. Even with a loss here the Braves would settle into third place in the Valle Vista and make the playoffs. Northview has its sights set on a perfect regular season. The Vikings will get that Thursday night. Vikings get the W.
Northview 35 Baldwin Park 14
Friday November 1
Schurr (8-1) at Bell Gardens (7-1)
This one is for the Almont League title with both teams at 4-0 coming in. Schurr has lost only one game all year- to La Serna-while Bell Gardens loss came at the hands of El Rancho. BG is up and coming and first year head coach Rudy Ramirez has done a great job. But the question is are they there with Schurr just yet? Probably not. The Lancers will be a challenge but the Spartans come out on top.
Schurr 28 Bell Gardens 17
Cathedral (8-1) at St. Paul (6-3)
St. Paul just keeps on winning big games. The Swordsmen survived Paraclete last week and have won all four Angelus League games. If they win Friday night they will have a league title. The only thing standing in their way is Cathedral. And right now the Phantoms are a big road block. Like St. Paul they are 4-0 in league and fought off a tough team last week in St. Francis. Cathedral has lost only once all year – to Narbonne in Week 4. St. Paul has momentum right now and has seemed to be up to every challenge this year. A big home crowd will help as well. The Swordsmen get it done.
St. Paul 24 Cathedral 20
Damien (7-2) at Rancho Cucamonga (6-3)
Damien can wrap up the Baseline with a win over Rancho Cucamonga. It’s been a great season for a Spartan team that changed coaches just weeks before the season opener. Head Coach James Stewart has stepped in and hasn’t missed a beat. With four straight wins in the Baseline it only seems fitting that Damien will finish it off here. Spartans go undefeated in league.
Damien 27 Rancho Cucamonga 24
Mayfair (7-2) at Downey (8-1)
Both teams are unbeaten in the Gateway League coming in. Downey beat rival Warren last week while Mayfair took care of Dominquez. Great matchup for the league title between two heavyweights. Downey hasn’t been tested in league. Mayfair survived a one-point win over Warren three weeks ago. Mayfair is good but right now Downey is better. Vikings will be crowned Gateway League champs.
Downey 35 Mayfair 24
Covina (8-1) at Chino (3-6)
Chino, despite starting the season 0-5, has a shot at a share of the Hacienda League title with a win Friday night. The Cowboys are 3-1 in league but Covina is their biggest test. The Colts haven’t lost in league. In fact they’ve only lost once all year and that was at the hands of undefeated Northview. Chino will give Covina a run but in the end the Colts offense will be too much. Even with a loss Chino could still slide into the playoffs.
Covina 35 Chino 21
South El Monte (6-3) at Arroyo (5-4)
This game looked great a couple of weeks ago but Arroyo’s loss to El Monte two weeks ago killed some of the buzz. But South El Monte still wants a win to wrap up the Mission Valley League title and finish a perfect league run. Both teams are coming off big wins last week. South routed Gabrielino while Arroyo took care of Mt. View. South El Monte has enough to win the MVL crown.
South El Monte 24 Arroyo 16
South Pasadena (7-2) at La Canada (8-1)
Big game in the Rio Hondo. Depending on what happens here South Pasadena, La Canada and Monrovia could all finish in a three-way tie or the Tigers could win the title outright with a victory. Monrovia beat La Canada last week and South Pasadena beat Monrovia the week before. The Spartans are still stewing over a game they feel they should have won last week. They will bring the heat and won’t let their foot off the gas. La Canada wins, Monrovia beats Poly, all three teams will be tied and CIF will have to work it out.
La Canada 31 South Pasadena 28

@Del Rio Watcher
you were saying???
This aged well
@thewatcher SG smashed them. Dominated the line of scrimmage.
@FLY EAGLES FLY
Just make sure Beltran knows how to defend play-action… especially with the post route! lmao
As the South Eagles gear up to face the Arroyo Knights, one thing is clear—this isn’t a case of a coach losing sleep over the competition. Sure, Arroyo has a reputation, but let’s be real, they’re not the mythical juggernaut they once were. Still, the Knights remain a mountain that Coach Gallardo hasn’t conquered just yet, and he knows the climb won’t be easy.
The Eagles’ game plan? It should be simple: keep the ball on the ground and pass when it’s needed. If they can pound out those yards on the run, they’ve got a real shot. But if the game becomes an aerial assault, Arroyo’s defense is more than ready to snag the upper hand—and the ball.
For the Knights, it’s all about digging deep and making the Eagles fight for every inch. Think of it as a slugfest in the trenches, three-yard battles that may not make the highlight reel but will definitely decide the outcome.
So, the question is will Coach Gallardo finally topple the Knights, or will Arroyo’s Excellence win out again? Either way, expect some bruised egos after this one is over. One hand Gallardo finally gets that elusive win and Arroyo is left shocked and shaken watching little bro carry the title. Or Things play out as usual and Arroyo keeps the Eagles in their place and Gallardo once again is left asking “how can I beat those guys”
My prediction:This is the year! Too much skill and too much size up front. Eagles win and win big! 42-21
@Tiggers69, And don’t forget, on the topic of Girls Sports, the admirable showing the Lady Conquerors had against thet LBP lady Jack Rabbits. That was a showing the boys football team could have had in the Gano years, no joke. Hats off to those young ladies.
Bet
K thanks
Sorry El Rancho but CIF is not going to let 3 teams from the weak Del Rio Leasgue into the playoffs.
Im kind of surprised we keep seeing games for teams like Damien Vs RC, or Covina vs Chino… nothing against those teams, but I prefer some of the games in the quick hits list. Especially the SG over Montebello pick, or the San Marino at Temple City, El Monte at Mt. View.
Not just saying picking out those games because I am an SG fan but clearly those local games gather the most responses. I am just advocating for the content I like and I am trying to do it peacefully, HS football is great in general!
@ Sportsman
I’vr watched Arroyo all year, nobody should fear Arroyo .Just be ready for their onside kick everytime they kivk off and play with a short field all night. Oh, and be ready for the 20 yd pass when they go for it on 4th and 1. Coaching matters
That’s great . The Grove School? I’m glad Panthers have something to cheer about …..
@ sports man – Beltran made what La Serna is today it was like they handed over the keys to a Ferrari , Beltran being an assistant at SEM has helped the program be successful. Culture is everything when it comes to HS sports dont forget it. SEM will win a CIF championship this season

October 29, SEM staff afraid of Arroyo? I suggest not! They have two pretty good coaches; the head coach and Beltran who was at la Serna and changed program a lot. He made it to the cif finals before forced to resign after a ‘not treating a student correctly” . Did nothing at Bel Gardens after many , including the hiring people, thought he was the gift for the program. But i think he is a very qualified assistant and with good (assisted at Whittier several years, even though WHS was and still is way way below average. )

Bg is going to get rocked!
@Old Has Been: Is that you Donald?
Alhambra and Montebello is a big difference. They would need to play way better. Montebello by 10+ unless Oilers pooped the bed. It’s up to them not SG.
Quiet!
Three things are guaranteed in life… Death taxes and Arroyo beating South El Monte!
Even in the worst season in recent memory I’m betting the farm that South will find a way to blow this golden opportunity.
Our loss to El Rancho is not a good look on paper especially when you are comparing Schurr’s loss to La Serna. But when it’s the final game of league play, it’s all about keeping the game close and having a chance to win in the final minutes of the game.
I also hope the Dodgers win tonight so our fans fill our home stands on Friday. If it goes to games 6, I think many will stay home to watch the Dodgers. We need all our alumni, all the students, all the parents and family members to come together and support our Lancers!
I’ve seen both teams play. Arroyo’s coaching is abysmal, especially on special teams and clock management. SEM was impressive against El Monte, who in turn beat Arroyo. I’m not seeing anything changing for the Knights unless Jim and Chuck take over coaching before gametime. That’s not going to happen.
@ LP: I believe that this is a winnable game for San Gabriel, if the Matadors can play efficiently—with no turnovers and only a few penalties—like they did against Alhambra last week.
Montebello will have the home-field advantage against the Matadors, which probably counts for something. However, I view the Oilers as a mistake-prone team; they managed to beat Alhambra, 24-14, despite committing three turnovers and piling up 151 yards in penalties.
Both teams have mobile quarterbacks, and both teams can pound the ball if they’re able to establish their running games. I think that San Gabriel’s quarterback, Efren Torres, is a more accurate passer.
San Gabriel and Montebello are probably comparable on defense, as the teams have allowed 23 and 25 points per game, respectively. This is a matchup that could go either way.
Do you know deez?
South El Monte and Arroyo Set for Showdown!
The stage is set this Friday night as the South El Monte Eagles clash with the Arroyo Knights in a battle for Mission Valley League supremacy. With both teams bringing their best into the matchup, this game promises to be an all-out battle “for all the marbles.”
South El Monte enters the game undefeated in league play, riding a wave of momentum with a strong running game and an arsenal of skill players ready to put points on the board. Known for their powerful ground attack, the Eagles can pound the rock and push downfield, but they also have the ability to throw and make big plays, despite sometimes being prone to costly mistakes.
On the other side, Arroyo stands as a perennial power and the stalwart of the Mission Valley League. With a balanced attack and a reputation for consistently contending, the Knights are prepared to defend their position at the top. However, they’ve been known to rack up penalties at crucial moments—something they’ll need to avoid in such a high-stakes game.
Eagles’ head coach Frank Gallardo, still aiming to finally overcome Arroyo’s dominance, hopes this is the year his squad breaks through. Will the Eagles find a way past their league rival and claim the title, or will Arroyo continue their reign and maintain business as usual? Eagles vs Knights let’s get ready to rumble!
Who could say this about young players!!!!! Why can’t you guys just enjoy the game what is wrong with this generation! Why can’t people just enjoy the sport these are YOUNG MEN these aren’t kids. We need to stop with the bad comments let’s just cheer these kids on.
This is hardly the Arroyo of previous years !
Bad nonleague from SEM . League games are weighted equally with nonleague. Loss to Bishop Montgomery lol , blown out by Valencia, etc
How SEM is still ranked behind EM when they blew them out and undefeated in league is beyond dumb. Better record and head to head blow out means nothing I guess.
@knoghts9817 wouldn’t be a shock. These SEM coaches have shown they’re afraid of arroyo in previous years. Let’s see how it plays out,
South by 2 tds, they will pound them, then throw at will on them. DBs are to small.
San Gabriel isn’t beating Montebello; they are not great but they are not Keppel or Rosemead .The game will seem like it’s in slow motion after facing BG and Schurr.
Tim, last year the Rio Hondo had a 3 way tie with Monrovia, South Pas and San Marino all with 1 loss. CIF ranked the teams based on Cal Preps rankings for seeding, but the teams shared the League title. If LC beats SP and Monrovia beats Poly, I can see Monrovia being Rio #1, LC getting Rio #2 seed and SP getting Rio #3 based on the current Cal Preps rankings.
From T. Peterson: Yeah I remember. I was just joking…CIF will have to work it out…should be interesting though.
BG with the upset
South players can’t handle the pressure. Anything goes wrong or any adversity they must face, they’ll fold. Arroyo wins and the MVL Title becomes a 3-way tie.
