3. Downey quarterback Oscar Rios was named the Gateway League MVP. 
4. South Florida beat San Jose St. 41-39 in 5 OT in the Hawai’i Bowl Tuesday night. 
5. Georgia quarterback Carson Beck is officially out for the year after undergoing surgery on his right elbow Monday. He will be replaced by redshirt sophomore Gunner Stockton in the College Football Playoffs.  
6. California transfer quarterback Fernando Mendoza has committed to Indiana. 
7. NFL Christmas Day Games: Kansas City at Pittsburgh, 10:00 a.m. Netflix; Baltimore at Houston, 1:30 p.m. Netflix. 
8. The Lakers are 16-13, 7th in the Western Conference, after a 117-114 loss to the Detroit Pistons Monday night. The Lakers play the Golden State Warriors on Christmas Day. 
9. Andrew McCutchen is returning to the Pittsburgh Pirates on a one-year, $5 million deal.
