Rams Notes: 3/1/2025

RamView contributors Tim Byrnes and Dan O. offer a breakdown on Shedeur Sanders and an updated Mock Draft with Matthew Stafford and Alaric Jackson back in the fold.

By Tim Byrnes

Matthew Stafford is back, but let’s take a final look at Shedeur Sanders.

Shedeur Sanders
Colorado 6-2/223

Stats: Yards, TDs, Ints, Rtg.
-2024: 4,34 yards, (37/10)168.2
-2023: 3230 yards, (27/3)151.7
-2022: 3732 yards, (40/6)160.4
-2021: 3231 yards, (30/8)162.4
-17 rushing Tds

Notes:
-No bad games vs ranked teams.
510 yards with 5 TDs and zero picks vs 17th ranked TCU and 371 yards 4/1 vs 8th ranked USC.

-Projected by media anywhere from 1st overall to late 20s in Draft.
*Only minor injuries in college: a 2023 back injury and a 2024 concussion vs Nebraska

-Doesn’t have much of a running game, but will surprise people.
With 4.7-ish speed, he’s not Prime, but he is slippery in the open field, as 17 career rushing touchdowns attest.

-He has the short to intermediate routes, McVay likes, down pat.

-Can fit the ball into tight coverage, but the numbers show longer passes have about 40% accuracy.

-His ‘distance to target’ is 107 out of 126 FBS QBs qualified at 8.0 yards per target.

This matters because it balloons his pass numbers, and when you factor in nearly 7,000 yards and 70 Tds at Jackson State, the question of Deion hiding his son’s mechanics is valid.

The season is over…Get your football fix with Joe Torosian’s “Game Day in The RamCave.”

He has multiple arm angles, which allows him to hang under pressure, but he stays in the pocket way too long. He has had multiple 8-sack games where he has foot yips to nowhere.

-He is good at Zone Reads but doesn’t recognize blitzes. He’ll be blitzed A LOT at the next level.
-He throws a pretty ball with good arm strength, but the accuracy drops significantly around 15 yards.
-He doesn’t lead his receivers well, with many having to slow down to garner a reception.

Note: In my opinion, his receivers make him look better than he is.

And he’s long-winded, which means he talks a lot and will be noisy.

With Matthew Stafford back for 2025, Sanders likely won’t be a Ram. But, if he’s there at 26—and we’ve seen Hall of Fame caliber quarterbacks tumble in the first round—the Rams would be compelled to take him.

Note: Sanders is a late 1st/early 2nd round talent that will, because of who his father is and the dearth of top talent at the position, go early.

Here’s some players the Rams could target with both Matthew Stafford and Alaric Jackson inked on Friday.

1. Love Nolen. Can’t believe still available at 26.
2. Williams is big and strong very versatile.
3. Knight plays angry which I love.
4. Shough is my sleeper QB. Great size but injury concerns.
5. Williams is a player maker. Zone corner type player. Like him a lot.
6. Hawks is a big kid. Nice hands and tough to bring down.
7. Travis has great size. Like him at right tackle. High IQ.
