Saints Make a Statement, 34-13

(San Dimas) – San Dimas executed in all three phases Friday night. The Saints played well on offense, defense and special teams and when you added it all up it amounted to a 34-13 win over Colony on the Saints home field.

Offensively San Dimas rushed for 155 yards and three touchdowns overall led by Jacob Gallegos who had 78 yards and two scores. Quarterback Brandon Meredith threw for only 76 yards but he made them count throwing for two touchdowns including a 27-yard strike to Gallegos in the fourth quarter that iced it.

The defense forced three Colony turnovers including two that led directly to San Dimas scores.

On the Saints first possession they marched down the field 66 yards on 11 plays. Gallegos scored from four yards out.

On Colony’s next possession a bad snap over the quarterback’s head led to a San Dimas recovery and a first down at Titan four-yard line. On the first play Meredith hit Daniel Baeza on the short four-yard pass and with 5:51 still left in the first quarter it was 14-0 Saints.

After stopping Colony again San Dimas needed just five plays to get into the endzone again. Liam Loyola capped a 50-yard drive with a five-yard touchdown run with just over a minute left. The extra point was missed but the Saints were up 20-0 at the end of one.

San Dimas was held scoreless in the second but Colony managed its first touchdown. The Titans drove 80 yards on nine plays. Quarterback Jordan Juarez kept it and scored on a six-yard run. San Dimas took a 20-7 lead into the half.

Late in the third quarter Loyola scooped up a fumble by Juarez after he was popped and took it back to the Colony six-yard line. Two plays later Keenan Hoyt scored on a five-yard run to make it 27-7 with just over three minutes left in the third quarter.

Justin Merrin broke off a 22-yard touchdown run for Colony early in the fourth to cut the deficit to two touchdowns, but San Dimas responded again.

After the Saints grounded the ball down into Colony territory Meredith went to the air and hit Gallegos open down the seam for a 27-yard score. The dagger put the Saints up by three touchdowns with just 6:31 left.

The Saints and the defense salted it away from there.

Merren rushed for 144 yards and a touchdown for Colony but the Titans weren’t able to muster any offense beyond that.

“We had a great week of practice. We didn’t let the heat or anything else bother us. This is a signature win for San Dimas,” said head coach Mark Holman.

San Dimas improved to 3-0 with the victory (2-1 on the field) while Colony dropped to 1-2.
