BG Smokes South

(South El Monte) – Quarterback Josh Adame and running back Steve Ibarra carried Bell Gardens to a 42-7 win over South El Monte Friday night at “The Swamp”.

Eagles came out strong on their first possession driving the ball down field and scoring on a Billy Valencia 4-yard touchdown run to make it 7-0 after the extra point.

Lancers took control from there, midway through the first quarter Adame found a open Chris Gutierrez to tie the game up at 7-7 after a Richardo Pena extra point. Just over a minute later after a forced fumble that was recovered by George Ramirez, Adame found Gutierrez again to put BG up 14-7.

Early in the second quarter after a long drive Adame used his legs and took it in from 1-yard out to make it 21-7, 11:26 into the second. Lancers stopped the Eagles again and drove the ball down field and Ibarra found a hole took it 25-yards for the score to extend their lead to 28-7.

In the second half Bell Gardens wasn’t ready to slow down after a South El Monte three and out, Adame took the Lancers down field and capped it off with a 21-yard touchdown pass to tight end Scott Williams. Bell Gardens tacked on another score when Ibarra found the end zone for the second time to make it 42-7, after Pena’s sixth extra point.

Ramirez led the Lancers defense with an interception and a fumble recovery along with playing a shutting down any South receiver that stood in front of him. Chris Rincon, Rene Munoz, Nicholas Solorzano, and Jose Morales all had sacks.

Adame went 14 of 20 for 187 yards with three touchdown passes and his score on the ground. Ibarra had nine rushes for 70-yards and two touchdowns. Gutierrez had eight catches for 155 yards and two catches for scores.

Eagles defense played hard the whole game Jimmy Martinez and Frankie Venagas shared a sack. Venagas also had a fumble recovery. Henry Masscoro and Anthony Jimenez split snaps going a combined 6 of 14 for 45-yards. Valencia ran tough the whole night leading the ground attack of South El Monte.

South El Monte starts a tough league schedule with Arroyo next week, and Bell Gardens faces Schurr.
