Hoover (1-4, 0-2) vs. Burbank (4-1, 2-0) at Burroughs H.S.

Last Meeting: 2009 Burbank 48-13

Since 2004 Burbank leads 6-0

Slow starts and turnovers are haunting the Tornadoes which have an electrifying offense with three impressive wide receivers in Jesse Pina, Dymond McRae, and DeVaughn Williams. A.J. Pule will have his hands full with Burbank’s defense.

Ulises Ochoa and Quortney Brazier make a good tandem at running back. Adam Colman has weapons in Jose Rodriguez and Ryan Thanaratnam at the receiver position. There might not be a better middle linebacker in the Pacific as good as Ryan Seidler.

Pasadena (1-4, 0-2) at Glendale (0-5, 0-2)

Las Meeting: 2009 Pasadena 48-0

Since 2001 Pasadena leads 7-2

What a difference a year makes, the Bulldogs were in the thick of a playoff race in 2009. Now Pasadena is just looking for a spark to revive a lost season. Brandon Cox must assert himself as a leader and Cleo Bates needs more touches to stretch the Nitros defense.

If Alex Yoon starts Glendale has a puncher’s shot with the Bulldogs in disarray. Alex Manukian will be asked to carry the load at running back.

DEL RIO
La Serna (4-1, 0-0) at El Rancho (4-1, 0-0)

Last Meeting: 2009 El Rancho 27-23

Since 2001 La Serna 6-3

After a week off, the Lancers are looking to continue their exceptional play as they enter the Del Rio League portion of the schedule. Andrew Buenrostro has all the tools to play at the next level. Andrew Rosales and Connor Burke are two good weapons most quarterbacks would want to throw to. Richard Alvarez and O.J. Medina control the clock with their north-south running ability. Craig Jones, Austin Essig and Jake Houts make the defense very difficult to score against.

Good start to the season for the Dons who have a myriad of running backs to hand the ball off to. Andrew Romero, Ronnel Lone, Daniel Moriel and Josh Lopez have all averaged 5.50 yards per game, which shortens second and third down for Troy Campos. Campos is no slouch either throwing for four touchdowns on the year.

Walnut (2-3, 0-2) at Diamond Bar (4-2, 0-2)

Last Meeting: 2009 Walnut 44-20

Since 2004 Diamond Bar leads 4-2

With both the Mustangs and Brahmas playing for their playoff lives, “the Branding Iron” showdown takes on new meaning for both teams.

Walnut was left reeling after their heartbreaking loss to Diamond Ranch last week. Big play guys like Brandon Roach, Aubrey Coleman and Alejandro Restrepo need to come up big against a shell-shocked defense in Diamond Bar.

The Brahmas defense has been non-existent in their last two losses giving up 84 points to two explosive offenses. Whether it is Andrew Cameron or Henry Omana each series takes on added meaning if the Brahma defense can’t stop Walnut. Josh Villoria and George Katrib will also need to find ways to get open.

Since 2006 Burroughs leads 4-0

Apaches are the surprise of the Southeast after last year’s nightmarish season. A young team that features playmaker Taylor Legace and a supporting cast of Myles Carr, Rodney Arnett and Sheldon McKinney.

Zander Anding is a physical running back with some break-away speed for the Indians. Lucas Yanez can throw the ball to keep the defense honest and set up the run attack. Tadeo Zuniga adds an added dimension when Anding needs a breather.

Crescenta Valley (4-1, 2-0) at Muir (1-4, 0-2)

Last Meeting: 2009 Crescenta Valley 21-14

Since 2001 Muir leads 6-3

Zac Wilkerson will need to step up if the availability of Marro Lee is in question. If Lee isn’t available, then it may be in the hands of Mark Sereno and Paul Perigini at running back. No matter what, Falcons win and they control their destiny for a playoff spot.

Mustangs find new ways to lose in 2010 and now face a must-win. Jeffrey Davis is back and needs to get Kevon Seymour the ball as much as possible. Muir must also use their girth on the offensive and defensive line to control the line of scrimmage.

Last Meeting: 2009 La Mirada 41-20

Matadores have rattled off two straight wins against Artesia and Glenn to start the Suburban League 2-0. Max Gama will need to continue his hard running and Shane Blood must find Anthony Diaz to be effective. After the Dons, La Mirada will head into a bye week before having to face Mayfair, Norwalk and Bellflower.

It hasn’t been easy to score for Cerritos who average 14 points a game but give up 34 points per game. The Dons are a young team that might be in for a rough night against the Matadores who have outscored their Suburban League opponents 106-13.

Big-time come from behind win against Walnut for the Panthers. Chase Price has put his name in the hat in the “MVP” talk for the Southeast Division after leading the comeback. Jacoby Carter can change a game with his speed.
