High School Top 20: Mid-Valley Division

Nick Palmer and Temple City jump into the Top 20 at number 16

Not many changes at the top of the heap. Arroyo jumped to number five with a big win over Rosemead. Schurr also moved up by routing Alhambra. Baldwin Park lost but only dropped two spots since the opponent was number four Covina.

Game of the week was at Maranatha where the Minutemen and Valley Christian staged a historic five overtime battle. The Crusaders jumped to nine with the 70-64 win. Maranatha is right behind them at ten.       

1. Monrovia (5-2): Wildcats won’t be tested until playoffs.                

2. Whittier Christian (6-1): Coaching staff scouted Maranatha-Valley classic.             

3. Azusa (7-0): Closest game all year was a 21 point win.     

4. Covina (7-1): Vinny! Vinny! Vinny!        

5. Arroyo (6-1): Knights pick off a win over rival Rosemead.              

6. Schurr (4-3): Spartans play complete game in rout of Moors.     

7. Baldwin Park (2-5): Turnovers sink Braves at Covina.      

8. San Dimas (5-3): Bye this week; then showdown with Covina.                

9. Valley Christian (5-3): Crusaders win instant classic; Whittier Christian next.            

10. Maranatha (5-3): Josh Jones is Josh Ouellette’s new favorite receiver.          

11. Bell Gardens (4-3): Lancers survive Oilers; Big game Friday at SG.           

12. Village Christian (5-2): Saturday night special this week with Maranatha.           

13. Rosemead (4-3): Second in MVL is there for the taking.

14. Alhambra (4-3): Moors try to bounce back vs. Montebello.                                                                                                  

15. La Puente (5-2): A lock for second in Montview.        

16. Temple City (3-4): Josh Simangunsong – hard to spell, harder to tackle.            

17. La Canada (3-4): Loss to TC leaves Spartans down but not out.            

18. South Pasadena (4-3): Tigers rout Blair; sill breathing in Rio.               

19. El Monte (3-4): Fourth quarter rally keeps Lions’ hopes alive.          

20. Montebello (2-5): Four of Oilers’ five losses have been by five points or less.                   

Number of teams represented in each league: Valle Vista 3, Rio Hondo 4, Olympic 4, MVL 3, Montview 2, Almont 4      

Notes: Sierra Vista dropped out of the Top 20 after losing to G-Stone. Temple City makes its debut with second straight victory in the Rio Hondo.
