On The Couch: June 6, 2009

Howdy Y’all!

Thanks a bunch Brad Lidge, you managed to completely blow another opportunity for me to be able to make fun of the Los Angeles Dodger offense.

I should have learned from last year’s AFL game between Los Angeles and New York not to finish a column or game copy until the outcome has been established.

So here I am now trying to find away to bash the Dodgers and now can’t.

That was a great comeback, what can I say.  The only bashing I can give the Dodgers is that they are still a “punch and Judy” bunch of hitters.

They have only 37 home runs combined and the Fertility Goddess has six of them.  Need more proof that the Dodgers are a bunch of powder puffs, Casey Blake has nine homers and his pace will finish with 25 on the season.

At least the Dodgers are beating good teams in the East as they are 5-2 against New York and Florida.

Today I will be out at Deanna Manning Stadium in Irvine for the CIF Southern Section softball Championships for three local schools.

In the first game, La Salle will take on Marymount at 10 a.m.  Followed by San Dimas against Village Christian, then finishing up my day with Glendora and Tesoro.

So anyone that doesn’t believe I get off the couch,  here is your proof.

My picks to win are La Salle, San Dimas and Tesoro.

The Lancers ride the Mid Valley karma, Saints are fast and can hit.  As much as the Tartans have Dana Waldusky, the Titans can flat out play and will be the toughest test for Glendora all season.

Today marks the half-way point in CONCACAF World Cup Qualifying with the USA sitting behind point leader Costa Rica.

Team USA needs to find away to settle down a very confidant Honduras team that defeated Mexico in their last game.

The US is in a world of hurt with no real back line and Brian Ching to help distribute the ball with Michael Bradley in the middle of the field.  As much as Landon Donovan is the spark, it doesn’t he can’t help a offense when he has to backtrack and play defense.

Look for the crowd at Soldier Field to be a very loud and boisterous crowd to help the Americans stay at least in second place.
