All-Mid Valley team will be announced on Thursday afternoon. The players to watch list will follow the same day.

With the season almost over, look for the final weekly version of the column to be next Monday. After that it will be a monthly column until after football season.

SUPER REGIONAL REPORT

After Josh Lowden’s story on Baillie Kirker, decided to see what other former local players are heading to OKC or were in the Super Regional in the NCAA tourney.

Kathryn Poet (Missouri) – Played at Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy. Now is heading to the College World Series.

Julie Ward (Oklahoma St) – After starring at St. Lucy’s, Ward is batting .325 with 11 homers. She is a big reason why the Cowgirls (yes, the Cowgirls) will be playing up the road from Stillwater.

Reina Gaber (Houston) – Helped lead South El Monte to a semifinal finish in 2009 where they lost to La Salle. Gaber played the designated player position during the Super Regionals.

Amy Bishop (California) – Was a four-year Pacific League team member when she played with Glendale. She has not had much playing time with the Golden Bears.

GOT THE WORD

As always, if it isn’t “official” we won’t run with it. So when we got word from a poster that Michelle Floyd had verbally committed to Arizona we hadn’t announced it.

Well now we can safely state that Floyd has committed to the Wildcats program.

Floyd’s season ended against Arroyo in the second round, but her stats were impressive with 222 strikeouts and a miniscule 0.78 ERA this season.

Opposing batters still have two more seasons of having to face Floyd’s fastball.

GOOD LUCK

To the teams that are involved in this week’s semifinals.

With all the returning players for La Canada and South Hills it isn’t surprising they are heading to the final four in its divisions.

Bishop Amat’s turnaround season is truly remarkable. Jesse Mendez has done a great job with the Lancers.

Arroyo and South El Monte are the “little teams that could” as the Mission Valley League teams moved up a division and have made it to the semifinals.
