Oilers Shut Down Rosemead

(Montebello) – Matt Saenz completed 10 of 14 passes for 111 yards and a touchdown to lead Montebello to a 20-9 in over Rosemead Friday night. Montebello improved to 2-0 with the victory while the Panthers opened the season with a defeat.

Rosemead gained the early advantage on two Jose Esparza field goals in the first half but Montebello scored right before the break to go up 7-6 when Marcus Portillo raced into the endzone on an 11 yard dash to the corner.

In the second half Justin Marino stepped in front of an Adan Guillen pass to not only thwart a Panther drive but he also returned it 85 yards for a touchdown for a 13-6 Oiler lead.

After another Esparza field goal, Saenz found George Romo for an 11 yard TD strike for the final points of the night.

Next up for Rosemead is a Thursday night date with Rowland at home while Montebello travels to Arroyo to face another MVL opponent.
