It has now been confirmed that Basil Woodruff is the new head coach for the girls basketball team at Monrovia.
Woodruff comes with a impressive resume as he was head coach of Alhambra (Martinez, Ca.) for 10 games prior to being relieved for unspecified reasons. He led the Bulldogs to a 4-6 record prior to his dismissal.
Prior to his stint in Northern California, Woodruff was a assistant for the Boys Varsity team at Redondo Union High School for eight seasons and was the freshman’s head coach.
Woodruff graduated from George Mason University. He has ties to Hall of Fame coach John Thompson Sr and current Georgetown head coach John Thompson Jr.
He has had stints as a basketball coach and Herndon and Mount Vernon in the Washington, D.C area.
The 39-year old head coach is a former Air Force veteran, and former Presidential Honor Guard. He currently works as a systems engineer for a aerospace company.
Coach Woodruff inherits a Lady Wildcat that was one game away from the CIF Division III-A championship game, when they dropped a semi-final game to Foothill.
