Joe Torosian

Good Morning!

Mike Gorball and Apollo Burger? I never would have made the connection.

Note to Defenses: Bad idea to leave Whittier Christian wide receiver Cody Bronkar in single coverage.

Oh, I’ve always been a Lane Kiffin fan…but the dude still needs to fire his father.

Really? When El Monte and Mt. View play for a CIF title against each other, in a CIF semifinal against each other, or for a Mission Valley League title against each other then I’ll understand anger, passion, and verbal explosions on the message boards.

However, since El Monte last won a league title in 1979 and View has never won a league title, let alone a playoff game, can everyone just step off? Honestly, what are you playing for? Dibs on the Playland at McDonalds on Valley? Doc’s Candy Store?

I’m going to be the first to say I called it. In previous Fanviews I said; “If San Dimas and Covina met today, the Saints win.” …But I didn’t say that last Friday and on Friday the Colts won. So I got it right.

Cheap on my part? Absolutely.

What will not be cheap is the dinner, steak & lobster, Villathedevil will be buying me at Northwood’s Inn after Pasadena qualifies for the playoffs. With tax, tip, and soft drink I’ll be sticking it to him to the tune of 55 bucks.

Note to Brandon Cox: Since you may be most responsible for me winning this free meal, I‘m inviting you down to share my salad and cheese bread when I collect. Bring Coaches Horton & McKay with you…Villathedevil won’t mind, he’s got a big (in more ways than one) wallet.

His Arroyo Baldness has been sharing to the effect, now I’m going to repeat it. Arroyo, a nice team, needs to clean up its act or it will be one and done in the playoffs.

Knights quarterback Steven Rivera played well against South El Monte, but not nearly as well as he’ll have to play if they expect to advance…or dare I say (dare, dare) expect to get by El Monte.

Is it fair to say the Rosemead tailback edifies the Panthers with his performances?

(Well all the jokes can’t be good, you have to expect that once in a while.)

Rio Hondo League play was exactly what the doctor ordered for Monrovia after a difficult non-league run. Anyone who gave up on this team is going to be feeling foolish when they return to the finals.

Of course come December when the Wildcats are playing in the finals, you won’t be able to find anybody who admitted they gave up on M-Town. These are the same type of people who play that; “Oh, I’ve always been a Monrovia fan” card when they want to look like they know something.

I thought it was interesting that the first story I read about the Tim Tebow led Denver comeback against Miami opened with how poor he played for most of the game…Instead of focusing on the rally.

Tebow is not a great quarterback…but he’s interesting.

Who do I like between the Rangers and Cardinals? Go with the team wearing red.

I get the impression this conversation took place three weeks ago between San Gabriel HC Jude Oliva and the President of the Matadors Booster Club.

Booster: “I don’t think you appreciate how explosive this situation is.”

Oliva: “I can appreciate it, I’m just contemplating the ‘ifs.’”

Booster: “I don’t care about the ‘ifs’, I just want to hear you say; I’m on the mother Mr. President, you ain’t got no worries, go back in there and chill those boosters out, and wait for the cavalry which will be coming directly.’”

Oliva: “I’m on the mother Mr. President, you ain’t got no worries, go back in there and chill those boosters out, and wait for Guerrero who I will be starting directly.”

Booster: “You’re starting Guerrero?”

Oliva: “Oh, you’re feeling better?”

Booster: “Shoot homey that’s all you had to say!”

San Gabriel’s Andy Guerrero has thrown for nearly 600 yards and seven touchdowns since the start of Almont League play.

Last Add Matadors: Senior wide receiver Alex Villalobos has caught 72 passes for 1,103 yards and 10 touchdowns.

The Dude abides…
