Arcadia Gets its Haines on CV

Jake Medel and the Apaches out run Crescenta Valley

(Glendale) – Arcadia broke open a close game at halftime and rolled to a 31-7 win over Crescenta Valley Thursday night in Pacific League action at Glendale High.

Arcadia scored twice early to take a 14-0 lead after one but CV responded with a touchdown in the second quarter to cut the lead to seven at the half. The Apaches scored twice more in the third quarter to increase the advantage to 28-7 and added a field goal in the fourth to ice it.

Jake Medel keyed the Arcadia attack with 129 yards on 14 carries and a touchdown and quarterback Myles Carr added a pair of scoring tosses to Robby Haines and Joey Willm, but it was the defense that set the tone.

While Crescenta Valley’s Marro “Houdini” Lee was rushing for 93 yards and a score, the Apache defense was closing down everything else. Falcon quarterback Zac Wilkerson was picked off twice and later racked by Haines on a bone-jarring sack. Arcadia’s Brian Ponce also recovered a fumble for a touchdown.

The victory gave the Apaches, 6-1 in league, a share of the Pacific crown with Burroughs. Because they fell to the Indians earlier in the season, Arcadia will enter the playoffs as the number two team out of the Pacific.

CV, 4-3, is slated to enter CIF action as the number four team from the Pacific. Pasadena places third because of its victory over the Falcons.
