St Francis 57, La Salle 52 (championship quarterfinal)

La Salle had three chances to convert in the final 50 seconds after St Francis missed a trio of 1-and-1 bonuses but couldn’t do so. The Lancers eventually yielded a pair of free throws from Emerson Castaneda that iced the Golden Knights’ win. St Francis will play Village Christian in the semifinal nightcap Thursday night, 7:30pm at La Salle. LS gets a rematch with La Canada, whom the Lancers beat last Wednesday 51-47, in a 5th-7th semi, 4:30pm Thursday at Temple City.

Consolation bracket

At Temple City

Arcadia 69, Franklin 55 (Cons. championship semifinal)

Four Apaches fueled a balanced attack as Arcadia prevailed over Franklin of Highland Park L.A. as Jeffrey Radzwill 15, Brian Taylor 14, R.J Saunders 12 and Stephen Smith 11 were all in double figures.

Zachary Hinton had an outstanding game for Franklin with 28 points and 13 rebounds, Anthony Aguilar belted out 7 assists. The Apaches will play South Pasadena for the consolation title Thursday at 7:30pm.

At La Salle

L.A Baptist 55, St Paul 52

The LAB Knights regained the lead against St Paul late in the fourth and held on to win 55-52, as the Swordsmen’ heave for the tie bounced off the backboard. Jayce Miller and Mike Otazu led LAB with 13 points apiece. Josiah Corona was the game’s high scorer with 19 for St Paul, who was also carried along by Paul Telles’ 17 points.

Gabrielino 48, Marshall (L.A) 47

Tyler Shimamoto led all scorers with 22 points including a decisive driving layup with 5 seconds to play. The Barristers raced down the floor but were pressured into settling for a deuce as time expired.

Alex Smith knocked in 10 in the second quarter and finished with 16 to lead L.A. Marshall.

South Pasadena 48, Montebello 47 (Cons. championship semifinal)

Jevon Shields (SP) flushed a 3-pointer from the right corner with 3.1 seconds left to give South Pas the lead, and the ensuing Montebello heave banked out high and wide as time expired, allowing the Tigers to cement their comeback win. South Pas trailed by as many as 10 midway through the third quarter. Shields, along with teammate Eren Cameron, both led SP with 10 points.

Youth and inexperience again plagued Montebello who was denied back to back wins after beating St Paul on Wednesday. The bright spot for the Oilers today was Chito (Adolfo) Valadez, who notched 18 points and nailed four treys in the second half.
