(San Gabriel) – Gabrielino closed the first and second quarters with runs of 6-0 and 12-0 while surrendering only eight first half points to South El Monte before later putting it out of reach with a 47-23 win Wednesday.
Antoinette (Toney) Puyolt posted a double-double of 10 points and rebounds to lead GHS, who was also carried along by Amber Limas (9 points-2 blocks, Teresa Wang (7 points-8 rebounds), Joann Chac (4 points, 7 rebounds). Gabrielino has got a nice contribution off the bench from Trino Phan who had 7 points and 5 steals.
SEM was topped by Alejandra Cedeno with 5. Marisa Cruz, Andrea Barcenas, and Mariah Quintana all had 4, while the team’s lone 3-pointer in the game was buried by Mallory Torres in the opening frame.
South had a lively uprising in the third quarter and rallied on an 8-0 run through a pair of baskets by Cruz and Cedeno to get within 13. They opened the fourth on a basket by Demi Nguyen but were blanked afterwards 11-0.
