Jelani Mitchell soars for two against Glendale

(Pasadena) – Muir went on a 17-2 second quarter run to erase a five point deficit and went on to rout Glendale 75-55 Friday night in Pacific League action.

Glendale scored the first five points of the game and led 20-19 after one. The Nitros then scored the first two buckets of the second quarter to gain the five point advantage. Then the roof caved in. Jelani Mitchell hit three baskets off steals and breaks, Arlondo Daniels nailed a pair of deuces, Andre Frazier creatred havoc defensively and the next thing you know the Mustangs are up by ten.

Muir increased the lead to 17 at the end of three and 21 in the fourth before settling for the 20 point victory. Frazier was also a force down low swatting away several Glendale shot attempts. He blocked three consecutive shots during one sequence in the third quarter. 

Frazier scored 17 points including eight in a 23 point third quarter. Jelani Mitchell also tossed in 17 with nine of them coming in the decisive second quarter run. Tevin Polk added 13 and had six in the third. Polk was five of six from the free throw line. 

Dion Nelson, running the show from the point, had six points in the first and ended up with 13. 

Arada Zakarian took scoring honors for Gendale with 14. He hit three bombs from beyond the arc. David Yetinikyan did a solid job down low contending with Frazier and company to score 13 points, nine of which came in the first quarter. 

Muir remained perfect in the Pacific at 12-0 and is 23-1 overall. Glendale fell to 5-7 and 10-14.
