Kick it!

Note to Bad News Barker: The Legends of Character thread, is exactly the reason I want us to get out of the “comments” business.

Note to Local Football Fans: Why are you wasting time bagging on Joe Kanach when he hasn’t even run a practice at Alhambra or bagging on Jude Oliva because he gets up early every Saturday morning during the off season?…Complaining about these guys is like being a Republican and complaining to President Obama about the priorities of Icelandic Whaling…It’s ridiculous.

You have a bigger issue and that is this proposed shake up of the Mid-Valley Division. Sierra Canyon is a good school, with good people…but is on the cusp of becoming the next Oaks Christian…And if they land in the Mid-Valley Division these current conversations are going to be pointless because every CIF final in the division until the next reshuffle will feature Monrovia and Sierra Canyon.

As one coach said over the weekend, “right now we are allowed to dream, our players are allowed to dream about playing in the CIF finals. If this happens everything will be about winning the opportunity to get your butt kicked by teams two area codes away.”

Something to Think About: I don’t want to give advice, we’re prepared to cover three divisions and will follow the Montview and Olympic League’s wherever they go…but as a fan, parent, booster, or coach…if you want to do something constructive start making phone calls, gathering signatures for a petition, or whatever it takes to say you don’t want this.

Note to CIF: Respect what you do…but you need to add the presence of local writers to these realignment discussions. I’m not asking for a seat (small potatoes) but the Star News, Trib, Sondheimer, Jeff Tully, Andrew Campa, Steve Ramirez, whoever, these are the boots on the ground covering schools on a regular basis and can offer insight as to what works and what doesn’t. They shouldn’t have the final say, but they need to have input.

Last Add Local Parents: Remember the schools work for you. They’re your districts. The private schools work for you, they exist by your funds. Exercise your ability to be heard…If its important.

…Personally I’ve got some connections going up to Carpenteria, so we’re going to be okay covering the Northwest Division…I’ve already got the preview written for Fillmore-Santa Paula, “The Battle for the 126…And the Fate of the World!”

Last Add Comments: I’m just a caveman. I got back into high school sports, football, in 1998. I don’t know everything, I don’t claim to know everything…but one thing I’ve always noticed is the steady stream of transfers into San Gabriel.

Remember when Daniel Drayton left Montebello and enrolled at SG?

When Vai Peko left Alhambra and joined the Matadors?

I’ll never forget the buzz when Josiah Thropay left Monrovia for San Gabriel or when Gevontray Ainsworth pulled up stakes in Covina and came to the Mats.

The legacy of the Canada Brothers is secured in Matador history.

It’s a shame Cedric Ho never played a down for the school, but at least they were able to convince Neiko Padilla to leave South El Monte. That great coup was preceded by its move to get Joe Morales to leave the Southmen after his junior year to play in Mission Town.

The current of players is flowing so strongly to the San Gabriel program I wouldn’t be surprised to see Kurt Scoby in the backfield next fall.

And once you’re at SG you never leave, that’s why it was great to see Nick Castillo hang around for all four years.

Lastly, I wouldn’t mess with Coach Oliva…Remember he conjured up the windstorm last November just to get an extra-day of preparation for San Dimas.

The Dude abides…
