(Arcadia) – Arcadia’s Andrew Cordeiro and Pasadena’s Patrick Saucedo were locked in a tight pitching duel through five innings as both had struck out six and give up one run, but in the end it was the Apache bats that made the difference in a 4-1 win over the Bulldogs Tuesday.
With the score tied at one going into its half of the sixth, with no outs, and two on, Erik Trask punched a 2-2 pitch to the gap to knock in Brandon Benson (who had led off with a first-pitch double) and break the stalemate.
The Apaches weren’t quite done as Darren Kerfoot stung a liner just short of the outfielder’s reach in right to yield a 2 RBI triple that accounted for the final runs and a 4-1 Arcadia lead. Kerfoot also secured the win in relief as he relieved Cordeiro in the sixth and rung up blanks for the final six outs, winning the game on one of four strikeouts he issued.
Brandon Cox blasted a double to the corner in right with one out in the firts for PHS, but was erased at third as the ensuing batter bounced it that way, to later be picked off at first to end the first half-inning.
Arcadia catcher Brendan Campbell gunned out a runner trying to take second and did it again on a post-error throwout in the third to help stymie a Pasadena rally.
