Week 5 Round-ups: Northwest Division

Bishop Montgomery 34, Cantwell-Sacred Heart 14

The Knights (5-1, 2-0) remained undefeated in Del Rey League play as they crushed the Cardinals (0-5, 0-2) Friday night at Bishop Montgomery.

The Knights racked up 550 yard of total offense against the Cardinals, including a stellar night for quarterback Louie Soto, who threw for 294 yards and two touchdowns. Receivers Bryan Paredes and Kenneth Ridgeway combined for 242 yards and a touchdown catch each.  Running back Michael Turner scored twice as part of his 98-yard output.

The Cardinals got on the board late in the half as Jared Gonzales scored from five yards out, sending the game into the half 21-7, but never got closer in the game.

Bassett 41, Workman 14

The Olympians (2-3, 1-1) ended a three-game losing streak as they pulled even in Montview LEague play with a convincing win over the Lobos (1-4, 0-2) Friday night at Bassett High.

Joshua De La Torre led the Olympian ground game with 18 carries for 168 yards and two touchdowns. Quarterback Nicolas Colmenero threw for 170 yards and scored three touchdowns on passes to Jamal Greenfield, including a 75-yard strike.

Justin Snedden provided the scoring for the Lobos, catching a five-yard pass from Ryan Gomez and rushing for another touchdown as part of his 86 yards on teh ground.

Whittier Christian 57, South Region #2 6

The Heralds (3-3, 0-0) ended their non-league schedule and a three-game losing streak by knocking off the Huskies (0-5, 0-0) in an intersectional match Friday night at South Region’s Huskies Field.

Quarterback Ryan Esslinger went 12 of 16 in passing, throwing for 200 yards and three touchdowns, while David Fischer added 166 yards on the ground in 9 carries and scored three touchdowns as well.

The Heralds open Olympic League play next week against Village Christian at Whittier College.

Northwood 45, Valley Christian 7

Two costly fumbles in the first half cost the Crusaders (1-4, 0-0) dearly as they were held to a single touchdown for the second time this season as they handed the Timberwolves (1-4, 0-0) their first win of the season Friday night at Valley Christian.
The lone highlight of the night for the Crusaders came in the opening drive of the second half as Jonathon Nicholson’s 18-yard touchdown run capped a 12-play, 80-yard drive, cutting the Timberwolves’ lead to 31-7. Nicholson rushed for 101 yards on 18 carries in the losing effort.
Valley Christian gets an unscheduled bye next week, as their scheduled opponent, Rancho Christian, dropped its varsity program after their opening season loss to La Serna in Week Zero.
