4.) On this date in 2000: Dodger Dave Hansen comes off the bench and smacks a three-run blast in the eighth inning against the Expos in Montreal. Hansens’ first pinch-hit homer of the season gives the Dodgers a 5-4 lead, but the Expos rally for a 6-5 victory.

The left-handed hitting Hansen went on to hit a total of seven pinch-hit home runs, breaking the 68-year-old major league mark of six set by Johnny Frederick of the Brooklyn Dodgers.

5.) In 2012 South El Monte (Jr.) Mario Burciaga passed for 334 yards and 5 Tds. He rushed for 234 yards and 2 Tds. He caught 21 passes for 326 yards.

6.) Detroit Lions kicker Jason Hansen retires after 21 seasons. (Did you know since 1980 the Lions have had only two kickers? Eddie Murray kicked for Detroit from 1980 to 1991.)

7.) Former Mt. View football HC Junkyard James Wilson turns 37 today.

8.) On this date in 1984, in Las Vegas, with 18,000 in attedance Los Angeles Lakers center Kareem Abdul Jabbar scored the 31,420th point of his career on an assist from Magic Johnson to pass Wilt Chamberlain as the NBA’s all time leading scorer. The Lakers beat the Utah Jazz 129-115.

9.) Azusa Aztec (Jr.) linebacker Jacob Ramos 2012 stats: 92 tackles, 3.5 sacks, 2 interceptions, and 1 fumble recovery.
