Mike Chavez leads the Arroyo defense against LC Friday night.

Good Evening!

Would anything but a Dodger-Yankee World Series be a let down?

Though I’ve been a moderate Twins fan since Kent Hrbek was a rookie, a Minnesota-Philly World Series would set MLB back a few years.

Which WS do you think the TV guys are rooting for?

Did you know Arcadia’s Jon Dimalante is 12-2 all time against Pasadena? The Apaches have not lost to PHS since 1999. In 42 previous meetings Arcadia leads the series 23-17-2.

On this date in 1999 San Gabriel defeated San Marino 24-10 thanks in large part to Fester Hout’s 112 rushing yards, 58 of them coming on a fourth quarter dash to the end zone that secured the victory. The Titans were led by Andrew Starnes who ran the ball 21 times for 147-yards including a 42-yard scoring run in the second quarter. The Matador defense shined in the second half limiting Starnes and picking off SM quarterback Briton Burge three times (Carlos Mojica 2, Julian Hernandez 1). SG triggerman Simeon Morales went seven of nine for 104-yards.

The victory snapped San Marino’s 11-game winning streak against San Gabriel.

Since the New York Jets are going to do it, I’m going to start Braylon Edwards one more time this week.

Bonita HC Eric Podley is 2-2 in match ups with San Dimas’ Bill Zernickow. How important is the Smudge Pot? After Dean Bennett (former TC linebacker) and quarterback Tyson Stull engineered a 28-21 victory over the Bearcats, the Saints Ernie Stumpf said this: “We slept on the field after we got the Smudge Pot.”

Funny to think tomorrow night will only be the second meeting between La Canada and Arroyo. The first meeting was last year and the Spartans rolled 28-0. The good news for the Knights is Mike Chavez won’t be in Texas this time around.

Did you know La Puente, Montebello, and El Rancho all served time in the Pacific League?

The Glendale-Crescenta Valley game this week is interesting for a variety of reasons. The Falcons lead the series 34-14 all time, and the Nitros have only won once since 1991 when Pathon Rucker carried them to a 34-0 victory.

Current Glendale HC Alan Eberhart, who previously coached CV five league titles in the 1990’s, played for the Nitros in 1974 when they scored a 20-16 upset over the defending CIF champion Falcons.

Crescenta Valley joined the Pacific League in 1977. Glendale and Hoover joined in 1982.

On this date in 1992 Rowland held off El Monte 14-13 at Bergstrom in the only previous meeting between the schools. After the Raiders built a 14-0 lead in the first half, the Lions stormed back with an 11-yard scoring run by Frank Sepulveda in the third. In the fourth quarter Phil Garcia hit Ramon Padilla with a five-yard touchdown pass, but Garcia’s throw for two-points and the game winner, fell incomplete.

Far be it from me to ever mention Week Five, La Salle, Temple City, and 2006 around Mike Mooney, Riley Saxon, Cary Smith, Williams Do, Joe Reasner, and company. (I don’t even think Randy Backus likes hearing about it.)

But this is Week Five, La Salle is playing Temple City, but its 2009. The Rams should roll.

Name of the Day: La Canada defensive back Dodge Williams.

Because I want the Rams back in L.A., I’m rooting against the Checketts-Limbaugh purchase…although the Rams could use some talent on loan from God.

Stay thirsty my friends…
