(Monrovia) – St. Francis jumped out to a 28-7 first quarter lead and never looked back in a 48-14 rout of Monrovia Friday night. Both teams came in unbeaten but it was the Golden Knights who established themselves as the superior team – at least on this night.
Quarterback Ty Gangi accounted for all seven touchdowns throwing for four, running for two more and just for the heck of it he also caught a TD pass. Dylan Crawford hauled in two touchdown passes and had over 160 yards in receptions.
***Gangi’s final line: Passing: 13-26-302-4 TD-1 Int; Rushing: 5-25-2 TD; Receiving: 1-8-TD.
***Joe Mudie, the nephew of former LA Avenger and current Bishop Montgomery Coach Ed Hodgkiss, ran for 72 yards and had four receptions for 78 yards and a score.
***St. Francis’ first touchdown came on a trick play when Gangi gave the ball to Matt Gonzalez who in turn hit Gangi for an eight-yard touchdown.
***Crawford’s final line: 4-161- 2 TD.
***After Kurt Scoby scored on a 18 yard pass from Deshawn Potts in the first quarter to cut St. Francis’ lead to 8-7 Gangi hit Mudie on a 27 yard TD pass play and Crawford for a 33 yard score to close out the quarter.
****Scoby had the Wildcats other touchdown as well with a 74 yard run in the second quarter to cut the lead to 28-14. He rushed for 124 yards in the first half but did not play in the second half due to a concussion.
***Potts reinjured his shoulder and also sat out the second half.
***On the first possession of the third quarter St. Francis ate up the first 5:21 of the quarter before Gangi found John Carroll on a 19 yard touchdown pass.
***Monrovia only had three possessions in the second half compared to nine in the first half.
***Miles Bryant repalced Potts in the third quarter and completed two of five paases. Potts was 5-15 for 71 yards and a touchdown.
***St. Francis scored the last 20 points of the game after Scoby’s touchdown run.
