(Rowland) – The visiting Bonita Bearcats ran right, left, and essentially ran OVER the Rowland Raiders, accumulating 292 total yards rushing, on their way to a 59-0 shutout victory Friday night at Rowland High School in Hacienda League action.
Senior Jake Payton led the attack finishing with 121 yards on 11 carries and 3 touchdowns, including a 55-yarder late in the first to put Rowland in a 14-0 hole. Then it was the reinforcement roles of Anthony Roberts (2/66) and Anthony Greco (6/52) who combined for 118 yards rushing that put the icing on the cake. In total the Bearcats had eight different ball carriers on the stat board.
Starting Bonita QB Cody Brazzill also managed an efficient game through the air completing 6 of 9 attempts for 153 yards and 3 Touchdowns, two to Danny Gelalich and one to Greco. Bonita’s back up QB Joey Halabrin was 2 of 3 with 54 yards passing in clean up time for his squad.
*** Brazill connected with Gelalich on the first touchdown of the night which made it 7-0 early in the first.
*** Payton’s 55-yard burst made it 14-0 with 1:49 to go in the first.
*** Inadvertent whistle on botched snap and partially blocked punt that was recovered by Rowland sent raiders coach Ryan Jacobson into a fury.
*** The “Re-Punt” was then returned to Rowland’s 14 yard line by Payton.
***On the ensuing first down Payton then scored his second touchdown of the night on a 14-yard burst off tackle to make it 21-0 before end of first.
*** Brazzill connected with Greco on a 22-yard touchdown strike to make it 28-0 with 7:04 in the 2nd
*** Halftime equaled 42-0 lead for the Bearcats
***Noah Montoya blocked a Raiders punt, which led to Payton’s touchdown run from 5- yards out to make it 35-0 in the third.
*** Halabrin joined the rushing party and scored from 3-yards out to make it 51-0 with just over 2 minutes in the third.
***Anthony Roberts capped off the scoring clinic with a rushing touchdown of his own making it 59-0
