Maranatha quarterback Eli Snyder threw three touchdown passes

(Pasadena – Maranatha quarterback Eli Snyder threw three touchdown passes and transfer running back, Caleb Devine added three more on the ground as the Minutemen defeated Village Christian 48-12 Friday night at Maranatha high school.
The Minutemen took only four minutes to compile a 10 play drive before Snyder connected with fullback Matt Hall for a 12-yard touchdown pass. However, it didn’t take long for Village Christian to answer right back. The Crusaders added six to the game after running back Roman Atreaga punched it in from eight yards out. Maranatha blocked the PAT making the score 7-6, with 4:48 left in the first quarter. Village took only three minutes and six plays to score.
After quick three and outs from both schools, the Minutemen were able to find the end zone again thanks to Baile McDavid who scored from 40-yards out. The offense continued to score throughout the half adding 14 points and shutting down Village Christian’s. At the end of the half MHS led 27-6.
The trend continued in the second half. MHS scored 21-points in 11 plays. Snyder connected with Xavius Boone for a 13-yard touchdown pass and Devine added two rushing touchdowns.
***Snyder completes 12-18 passing for 126 yards and throws three touchdown passes.
***Devine carried the ball 12 times for 95-yard and scored three touchdowns.
***Village Christian QB Jesses Hanckel did not play.
***Luis Bareo carried the ball 14 times for 50-yards.
***”It’s amazing how in a couple of weeks how much you can grow as a program and a team, really proud of our guys on the defensive side,” said Maranatha HC Jude Oliva.
***Maranatha blocked two point after attempts, forced an interception and only allowed 88-yards in the second half.
***Xavius Boone: five catches 52-yards, two TD receptions.
***VC running back Kenny Choi: eight carries, 37-yards, one touchdown.
***”He’s a great running back,” said Snyder talking about Devine.
***Village Christian hosts Whittier Christian next Friday.
***Maranatha travels to Heritage Christian next Friday.
