First Year Monrovia HC Chris Stevens
(Monrovia) – Monrovia lost running back Kurt Scoby to graduation, the projected starter at quarterback transferred to St. Francis and the Wildcats were moved to the Central Divsion where they will have to contend with the likes of teams in the Mt. Baldy, Palomares and Hacienda Leagues. But for new Monrovia head coach Chris Stevens it’s a great opportunity.

“I heard that Ryan (Maddox) stepped down and I couldn’t believe it. I was like no this can’t be true,” Stevens said. “I had to call Ryan and ask him is this true? So of course I threw my hat in the ring and here we are. I’m inheriting a very good program. It’s going great so far. I’m excited to be here.”
Stevens is coming off a sucessful run at Ontario Christian but is now jumping into a team that has had unbelievable run over the last five years. Monrovia won three Mid-Valley Divsion championships and appeared in four straight title games under Maddox before being knocked out in the semis last year by Paraclete. Although they did lose Scoby and some other key starters the cupboard is hardly bare.
Christian Walton leads the Bubbas
Kameron Johnson returns at running back and brings 609 yards and 9 touchdowns from 2013 with him. Octavius Spencer and Jordan Nathan who both had over 100 yards last year are expected to make big plays at receiver and junior Asaph Zamora is ready to step in at quarterback.
Defensively keep an eye on corner James Jackson, DL Christian Walton and Eric Brooks. Big plays? Khalil Bradley! Monrovia is the class of the Rio Hondo but the question on the minds of the Monrovia faithful can they compete in the Central. With the talent the Wildcats have, they’ll compete. The Cats always do.
