1. South El Monte baseball player Derek Zavala was hit in the face with a baseball and suffered a broken jaw. Prayers for a speedy recovery.

2. Germany routs Brazil 7-1 to advance to the World Cup Final.

3. Pete Carroll is inducted into the USC Hall of Fame.

4. Hyun-Jun Ryu ties a Dodger record by allowing eight hits in one inning and the Tigers pile up 20 hits in all in a 14-5 rout of the Dodgers Tuesday night.

5. LeBron James is scheduled to meet with the Heat today.

6. Yasiel Puig agrees to participate in the Home Run Derby next week.

7. Twice during Tuesday’s radio broadcast as they were going to a break Dodger announcer Rick Monday said “12-5 Dodgers.” It was 12-5 Tigers.

8. Happy Birthday to former Kansas City Royal speedster Willie Wilson who turns 59 today.

9. On this date in 2011 Derek Jeter collected his 3000th hit in a 5-4 Yankee victory over Tampa Bay.

10. “Minter and Garrison kept texting me from Yosemite while they were fishing. They kept saying ‘you could have retired too!’ I’m not ready for that. I enjoy this too much.” – Covina assistant Dominic Angelo.
