Falcons Make a Statement in Season Finale

(Glendale, Ca) – After a heartbreaking loss to Burroughs in their previous game, Crescenta Valley set out to make amends in their final regular season tune-up against Arcadia.

The Falcons ran wild on an undersized Apache defensive front to deliver a message to the rest of the Southeast Division with a convincing 42-13 win at Moyse Field.

“I think the most important part was to bounce back,” said Crescenta Valley head coach Tony Zarillo.  “After such a disappointing loss last week, the kids needed to play well.”

Harry Pessy amassed 245 yards on the ground and scored three times (all in the first half) to lead Crescenta Valley (7-3, 5-2) to their seventh win of the season.

Arcadia (2-7-1, 2-5) made the game interesting in the first quarter as they jumped out to a 7-0 lead on their longest play of the half when quarterback Garrett Tuck found Robbie Haines on an eight-yard pass.  The Apaches started the drive on the Falcon 8-yard line after a David Schull 16 yard interception return.

That would be the only time Arcadia had the lead as Crescenta Valley scored 21-unanswered points all on Pessy runs of 5, 21, and 10 yards.

While the Falcon offense was scoring points, the defense held the Apaches to a total of 57 yards in the first half.

Arcadia head coach John Dimalante gave the nod to sophomore quarterback Miles Carr to start the second drive in the third quarter.

“I am really excited about our underclassmen,” said Dimalante.  “It was a tough year and we had a tough time hitting the target this season.  I am really going to miss these seniors.”

The gamble worked as Carr found Taylor Lagace (seven receptions for 103 yards) on a 45 yard post-route to cut the Falcon lead to eight with 5:28 to play in the quarter.

After the score, the Apaches were gifted an opportunity on the ensuing kickoff as Harry Pessy fumbled the return which was recovered by Arcadia at the Falcon 43-yard line.

On the very next play, Carr threw into triple coverage and was intercepted by Tanner Hamilton at the 20-yard line to stop any Apache uprising.

The turnover would prove costly as Crescenta Valley would march down the field and put the game away when Kevin Rignot ran it in from 24 yards out to give the Falcons a 15 point lead heading into the fourth quarter.

Crescenta Valley added two more touchdowns in the fourth quarter as quarterback Kyle Cota (nine for 12 on 88 yards and two touchdowns) found Mike Bako (7 catches for 62 yards) and Andrew Carcich for scores.
