Downey Too Much For Lynwood

(Lynwood)- The Downey Vikings scored on the ground, through the air, and by the foot as they beat the host Lynwood Knights, 23-14, Friday evening at Lynwood High School, in the San Gabriel Valley League opener for both schools.

The Vikings, 3-3 overall; 1-0 in league play, opened their scoring with a 43-yard field goal by senior kicker Omar Juarez late in the first quarter. Downey would add two additional rushing scores. The first by senior running back Justin Huff (20-yards), and the latter by senior quarterback Eddie Preciado (27-yards). Preciado also did it through the air, connecting with senior receiver Jason Thomas for an 85-yard catch and run.

Lynwood (5-1 overall, 0-1 in League) opened the games scoring with a 22-yard touchdown pass from senior quarterback Darryl Robinson, Jr. to senior wide receiver Dante Spotville. The Knights’ only other score came on a 40-yard interception return by senior Rasheed Cox.
