(San Dimas) – The dynamic running duo of Alex Camacho and Elijah Grijalva helped retain the Crosstown Crown in the hands of Northview with an emphatic 34-6 victory over Covina.

Camacho ran for 258 yards and scored a touchdown, while Grijalva rushed for 131 yards and two scores to put the Vikings on the verge of an outright Valle Vista League since 2008 and the first under Marcel Perez.

The Colts will be lamenting over their inability to score inside the red zone in the first and second quarter while the game was still in reach. In the first quarter, Covina managed to get within the 5-yard line only to watch Camacho come up with an acrobatic one-handed interception.

With the Colts driving to cut the lead to one touchdown, Camacho came up big again by intercepting Joe Benavidez for the second time at the goal line.

Grijalva iced the game with his second score late in the fourth quarter to ensure the Crosstown Crown trophy stayed at Northview.

*** The Colts were limited to just 105 total yards rushing in the game and only had 37 plays from scrimmage.

*** Covina went four of eight on third down conversions and attempted one fourth down conversion that was thwarted by the Vikings defense.

*** Pearnell Smalley finished the night on 15 carries and 57 yards on the ground. He scored on a one-yard dive near the end of the third quarter for the Colts only score.

*** Benavidez had a rough night passing the ball going five of 13 for 83 yards and three interceptions.

*** Eric Williams and Greg Hennes each had two catches for Covina on the evening.

*** Camacho’s interceptions came on back to back defensive stands inside the ten yard line. Offensively, Camacho had five rushing plays over 20 yards. His only touchdown was the opening score from 47 yards.

*** Grijalva’s scores were from 8 and 12-yard runs.

*** Northview finished with 24 first downs on the night and were six of 11 on third down conversions.

*** Steven Comstock finished the night going four of seven for 72 yards. He also ran for 41 yards on 11 carries and scored on sneak for the teams second score of the game.

*** Northview’s kicker Enrique Jacobo hit field goals from 22 and 25 yards out.
