Spartans Take Third at SGV Classic

(Monrovia) – Koko Kurdoghlian scored 16 points and Daivon Grayson added 12 as La Canada beat Temple City 58-55 Tuesday night to take third place in the SGV Basketball Classic at Monrovia High.

Grayson’s driving layup with seconds left proved to be the dagger as the bucket put the Spartans up by three. Nathaniel Nuguid heaved up a three at the buzzer but it was blocked and La Canada had the victory.

Kurdoghlian hit  a pair of threes in the first quarter and Ben Choi had five to get LC off and running with a 22-15 lead. Richard Hollinger, who scored seven in the first quarter for the Rams, remained hot with another three and had five points in the second. Temple City trailed by just five, 32-27 at the half.

Temple City made its big push in the third quarter outscoring La Canada 17-9 to take a 44-41 lead after three. Ali Elahawary hit a couple of baskets and Hollinger buried another one from three point land. However Temple City managed just two field goals in the fourth quarter and La Canada did enough to win.

Grant Arthur was also in double figures for the Spartans with 11. Hollinger led the TC attack with 15 and Elahawary tossed in 13. Tyler Api fisnhed with eight.

La Canada improved to 8-4 overall while the Rams fell to 8-6.
