2.) The New England Patriots have declined to pick up the option on 11-year DT Vince Wilfork, making him a free agent. The cap savings will be $8.9-million this season.

3.) Monrovia’s Aubrey Mosley returns as the Wildcats top receiver with 13 catches for 236 yards and four touchdowns.

4.) San Francisco Giants rightfielder Hunter Pence will be put 6 to 8 weeks with a broken left forearm after being hit by a pitch yesterday against the Chicago Cubs.

5.) In 21 games playing cornerback for Maranatha Dexter Myers (a senior-to-be) has intercepted 12 passes.

6.) After nine seasons former UCLA running back Maurice Jones-Drew has announced his retirement. Drew spent eight years with Jacksonville and one with the Oakland.

7.) On this date in 2009 La Canada hired Dan Yoder to be its football HC. Yoder replaced long time Spartan coach Rich Wheeler and made two playoff appearances in three seasons.

8.) On this day in 1836, after a 13 day siege, the Alamo fell in the battle for Texas independence.
