(La Puente) The Covina Colts scored 28 unanswered points in the second half to go with 15 in the first and completely dominated the Bassett Olympians 43-6 Friday night at Bassett High School.

Eric “Pooh” Williams was the stellar on the evening scoring four times, two on the ground and two through the air.

The Olympians only score came with less than a minute to play in the game on a one yard run by Chris Cabral. Cabral also set up the score on a 46 yard run down to the one yard line.

The Colts got the party started midway through the first quarter when Andrew Apodaca found Williams over the middle for a 39 yard strike for the score. Tristan Sprague punched across the two point conversion for the 8-0 advantage.

Williams scored again with 7:14 left in the first half and Sprague booted the extra point through to push Covina’s advantage to 15-0.

Disaster stuck for Bassett on their first drive from scrimmage in the second half. On the first play Marcus Ruiz was picked off by Matt Vidrio who returned the inteception back to paydirt.

Ruiz set up Covina for their final score on the night as well when he fumbled at midfield. Two plays later Sprauge turned the corner on a fly sweep and bolted into the endzone from 45 yards away.

*** Williams finished the night with 96 yards receiving on five cathches and only six yards rushing but three of the six went for touchdowns.

*** Cabral was the leading ground gainer for the Olympians with 51 yards on five carries.

*** The Colts David Barragan led all rushers with 116 yards.

*** Marcus Lozano led Bassett in receiving yardage with 71 yards while catching three balls.

*** Ruiz hit on 10 of 21 passes for 100 yards but had three picked off.

*** Andrew Apodaca had an efficient night passing completing 12 of 18 for 208 yards and two scoring tosses.

*** Angel Reyes had a long night finding room to run only able to gain 39 yards on 15 carries.

*** Sprague only had two carries but had fifty yards and a touchdown and a two point conversion.

*** Next up for Covina is a Valle Vista League matchup with Nogales.

*** Bassett begins Miramonte League play next week on the road at Ganesha.
