1. Kurt Scoby’s final numbers in his freshman year at Azusa Pacific: 162-1104 yards, 11 TD.

2. Former Monrovia Wildcat George Frazier caught a one-yard touchdown pass for Colorado last Friday night in the Buffalos 30-27 loss to USC.

3. Former Maranatha star Jeremy Major had 17 points and 10 rebounds for Pepperdine in the Waves 69-66 season opening loss to Fresno State last week.

4. Clemson, Alabama, Ohio State, and Notre Dame remain 1-4 in the College Football Poll.

5. Chicago Cubs manager Joe Maddon is named NL Manager of the Year. Jeff Banister is named AL Manager of the Year.

6. Oakland Raiders linebacker Aldon Smith is suspended by the NFL for one year for violating the league’s substance abuse policy. Smith was arrested in August on charges of hit-and-run, drunken driving and vandalism. He has since pleaded not guilty to the charges.

7. Tyler Ulis scores 18 points to lead #2 Kentucky to a 74-63 win over #5 Duke Tuesday night.

8. The Dallas Cowboys release quarterback Brandon Weeden.

10. On this night in 1985 Washington Redskins quarterback Joe Thiesmann is sacked by Lawrence Taylor of the New York Giants. Theismann’s left foot stuck in the turf, and his leg twisted and snapped effectively ending the quarterback’s career.
