Good Evening!
T-Minus-250 Days until “The Mid Valley Classic”
I’m actually thinking doing a feature on the things we hate in sports. That’s all I’d want it to be about, I don’t want Obama’s or Bush’s name dropped in there, but 10 things I hate in sports…like the New Orleans Saints, the attitude of Nick Saban, the persecution of the USC football program…
Do you think people would respond with lists on their own? Let’s try.
1.) New Orleans Saints
2.) Breaking News about a new steroid user in baseball
3.) Whiny, wussy, officials telling everyone, including coaches to get back or get flagged on the sideline
4.) The slobbering love affair with Brett Favre
5.) Decade lists
6.) Any and all baseball talk during the football season, especially January
7.) Nick Saban (dude needs to lighten up)
8.) Monday Night Football on ESPN
9.) Jim Nantz at CBS Sports
10.) Local politicians who hold everybody hostage until their palms get greased for approval of a new stadium
Better late than never, but Andy Villanueva, known as “El Diablo” to folks around The Mid, actually had the inside slant on Pete Carroll’s departure to Seattle last week long before it broke. There is part of us wishing we had slapped it up on the site, but Andy measured scoop versus the integrity of a relationship and swallowed his squash. So I tip my hat to him, if indeed I were wearing one.
Weird things are happening when long time Dallas Cowboys haters, aren’t hating them as much in recent weeks. I’ve experienced this, Bad News Barker has experienced this…Peterson of course always goes with a winner, so he has no idea what we are talking about.
If Peterson is going to nominate everybody and their brother for the USC job, then sign me up for the Bassett gig…I’d like to take a crack at it.
I have no problem with Tennessee Titans running back Chris Johnson being named Player of the Year in the NFL, 2,000-yards in a season will get it for you every time… My only issue with Johnson is how long will he hold up?
I think a better name for Chad Ochocinco would be Chad GrandeNada
Junior Seau has retired for the fourth time…but this time he’s serious.
I have to ask Arroyo Knight this question—just to be clear—are you pushing former Arroyo defensive standout Ronnie Williams as player of the decade in the Mission Valley League? I thought you would have argued for Sergio Leon.
This topic came up on some of the sports boards: “Should the Eagles move Donovan McNabb”
Surprise, surprise…it would be a real shocker if McNabb didn’t return to Philadelphia next season, but if the Eagles have a taker…a team willing to cough up something for him then they should cut the deal.
McNabb’s performance against the Cowboys last week was pathetic, and I understand anybody can have a bad game against a hot team…but the jury is in on McNabb. He’s a good quarterback and that’s all he’s ever going to be. If I was in Denver I might want a quarterback, especially with extra draft picks available after dealing Jay Cutler last summer. Also Miami might be in the hunt for a passer unless they are ready to commit fully to Chad Henne.
Hey the Rams are going to need a quarterback if Marc Bulger retires. They might need one if he doesn’t retire, there is talk of dealing or releasing the battered veteran.
“Take a lesson from the Kurt Warner mistake, do not let Bulger go. First of all, the Rams have no better options at this point…really, nothing else even close to an NFL QB on the roster. Second, build a real OL and get him an established WR or two and see what happens. Draft a QB in round 3 or 4 and let him hold a clipboard for a year or two, but keep Marc Bulger. If all else fails, my arm is feeling pretty good.” —Roman Gabriel
Perhaps the razor sharp wit and insight of Blue State can tell me Matt Holliday is worth all the money the St. Louis Cardinals gave him…I don’t care, I’m just not a Holliday guy.
Stay thirsty my friends…
