Maualuga is livin la vida loca in Cincy!

Good Evening!

T-Minus-230 Days until “The Mid Valley Classic”

Do you know what’s interesting about Lou Torres the new head football coach at Alhambra?

It’s not that he’s a classy guy…I’ve had only a few interactions with him, but he was stand up all the way.

It’s not that he has served well as Alhambra’s athletic director for the 14 years.

What is interesting is he will be the first Alhambra football coach not named Gil Ruedaflores to lead the Moors in an Almont League contest. Think about that. The Almont was formed in the early 1990’s when Schurr, San Gabriel, and Alham were peeled away from the Foothill League and added to Keppel, Montebello, and Bell Gardens.

For the first time in nearly two decades they are going to need to new game film on the Moors.

The only negative about all this was the process. We didn’t need an insider to pass on information to make us understand that Zeke Prado’s and Jude Oliva’s interviews, though well intended, were just window dressing.

Why wouldn’t administration officials want to go with a steady, quality, guy like Torres to replace Ruedaflores?

I’m not taking a shot at Prado and Oliva, it’s to their credit they got consideration, but it’s a bummer schools, or even NFL franchises, can’t just hire straight out the person they want. Instead they have to jump through hoops.

Last Add Alhambra: Who was the last HC of the football team before Ruedaflores arrived from Glendale College in 1989?

“It was an insightful experience,” said Prado. “I’m grateful for the opportunity and I want to wish Lou Torres and his staff good luck in the Almont this year. Torres is a great guy.”

It is really nice to see former USC linebacker Rey Maualuga fitting in with the Cincinnati Bengals.

Riddle me this Blue State: Was Reed Johnson necessary for the Dodgers? Wasn’t Mitch Webster available? Roberto Kelly?

Former South El Monte/St. Paul/Fullerton lineabcker Joe Morales announces tomorrow…It will be an out of state school on the other side of the Mississippi.

After a furious texting interview where I badgered him without mercy former Southman HC Erick Escamilla said he is not going to be coaching next season.

Speaking of the Dodgers I was at Trader Joe’s today and the Dodger Caravan 2010 bus rolled into the parking lot up in Pasadena.

Everyone was coming out of the woodwork, so I didn’t stay but I got to see Tommy Lasorda hop off the buss (“nice, hopping”) and he was followed by Dodger legends Rudy Law, Bobby Castillo, and Kenny Landreaux…Okay not exactly legends. In the last few years Law has made more public appearances for the club than he had official at-bats in the bigs.

A real legend was there in Tommy Davis…and he was smiling until he found out he was traded…again.

I didn’t wait to see Andre Ethier who was yacking it up on his cell phone…

Last Add Answer to Alhambra Question: Dave Lawson.

Stay thirsty my friends…
