Onalfo Out, Sigi Schmid Back in for Galaxy

(Carson) – The Galaxy fired Head Coach Curt Onalfo and replaced him with Sigi Schmid, the team announced Thursday. Schmid previously coached LA from 1999- 2004. The Galaxy currently 6-10-4, has lost five straight and has won just once in their last eight games under Onalfo, who replaced Bruce Arena before the season began.

Schmid led LA to the MLS Cup championship in 2002 and went 79-53-52 during his six year tenure. He guided the Galaxy to the MLS Cup four times and won three division titles. He also won the U.S Open Cup in 2001 and 2000 CONCACAF Champions Cup while leading the Galaxy.

Schmid most recently spent eight years as the head coach of the Seattle Sounders and prior to that three years with the Columbus Crew, winning an MLS Cup with the Crew in 2008.Schmid was named MLS Coach of the Year in 1999 and 2008.

Schmid’s first game back on the Galaxy sideline will be Saturday night at StubHub Center when LA hosts Schmid’s old team, Seattle.
