(El Monte) – Mt. View ran roughshod over Workman Thursday night racing out to a 29-7 halftime lead and routing the Lobos 55-14 at Viking Stadium.

The Vikes scored early and often while the Lobos continually turned the ball over or struggled to move the ball.

Workman turned the ball over on its first possession and Mt. View immediately took advantage. The Vikings took over on the Workman 24 and  six plays later Juan Medina went in from four yards out for a 6-0 lead.

later in the quarter, quarterback Aaron Borrayo ran through the Workman defense for a 79-yard touchdown.

The Lobos offered a small murmur of protest on the ensuing kickoff when Francisco Andrade returned it 90 yards for a touchdown to cut the Mt. View lead to 13-7 early in the second quarter. The Vikings went on to score the next 42 points.

Mt View went up by 22 at halftime. Armando Flores scored on a 64-yard run, Borrayo scooted 21 yards for a touchdown and as the first half clock hit zeroes Brian Perez booted a 39-yard field goal that hit the crossbar and crawled over.

Mt. View quickly put it away in the second half as Borrayo got his third TD of the night on a 22-yard jaunt. With 1:29 left in the third Peter Nguyen got loose for a 25-yard score. After another Workman turnover Flores scored his second on a 15 yard run.

The fourth quarter featured a running clock but that didn’t stop the Vikes from finding the endzone one more time as Jesus Lopez scooped up a pass behind the line of scrimmage and returned the fumble 32 yards for a score.

Workman added one late on a Rudy Jimenez two-yard run.

When it was all said and done Mt. View had close to 300 yards rushing and a 41-point victory.

Mt. View improved to 1-1 with the win while Workman fell to 0-2.

“This book has been such a breath of fresh air. Reminding me why I sit on bleachers and what a community is all about. Most importantly what high school football is all about. I read the book 3 times.”
“Anyone who has a kid trying out for his High School football team needs to read this book. Torosian has taken his 20 some years of reporting on Prep sports, mixed a healthy dose of San Gabriel Valley insider references and created a very readable first effort.”
“A page turner…I’m sorry it’s over! Is a sequel in the works?”
“Torosian does for high school football what Hemingway did for the Spanish Civil War…compelling look beyond the scoreboard and into the lives of players…”
“A truly great story unfolds in the pages of Joe Torosian’s first novel. With high school football at its core, the story of Dale Andrade shows how a young man grows in all aspects of his life thanks to being a part of a team and a football community.”
“This is a great read for everyone: from those who love high school football to those who have no idea about the game.”
“This book brings you onto the field and into the locker room…”

Good win for the Vikings! They have not played the Lobos officially since 2006. They played them in a preseason game in 2007 but, the came was called at dark because the people in charge did not know how to turn the lights on, or conveniently they did not have the keys to the light room or the LaPuente School District did not pay their light bill. Whatever! Great win for the Vikings against a higher rated team in Division 13.
