Northview Manhandles Rosemead, 54-12

By Rich Whittington

Conventional football wisdom tells us that offense sells tickets, while defense wins games and championships This fact was proven at Rosemead High School Friday evening, as the visiting Northview Vikings outran, out passed, and outscored the host Rosemead Panthers, on their way to a 54-12 victory.

The Vikings, who evened their season record at 1-1, opened the scoring early when Jamier Johnson intercepted a pass from Rosemead QB Alex Arguesta and returned it 52 yards for a touchdown. Northview’s defense would again torment Arguesta, as Joseph Castillo, Jr. returned another interception for a ten yard TD. The Vikings’ final defensive score came on blocked field goal attempt. After the attempt was blocked, and touched by the Panthers, Vikings’ WR Nathan Amadeo scooped up the loose ball and ran for a 15-yard score.

Not to be outdone, Northview’s offense also had a productive evening, with Senior QB Steven Comstock making a multi-score contribution…completing 8 of 16 attempts, for 210 yards and three touchdowns, in just one half of work. Comstock’s targets for the evening were Damion Thompson (56 yards), Joseph Castillo, Jr. (24 Yards), and Jimmy Amezquita (42 yards). The Viking’s running game also contributed, as RB Martin Guitierez scored on a one yard TD blast. The Vikings added a final rushing TD, courtesy of reserve QB James Jimenez, who scored on an 11 yard TD run.

Rosemead, 0-2, got on the scoreboard in the fourth quarter of play, as Arguesta connected for a pair of TDs. The first, a 34-yard strike to WR Justen Campbell, came with 10:46 remaining in the game. Rosemead’s second score was a 53-yard pass, catch, and run to Sabastian Hernandez. In both cases, the 2 Point PAT attempts were unsuccessful.

Rosemead’s next contest is scheduled for 9/7/17. The Panthers will host the Artesia Pioneers. Also on 9/7/17, the Vikings will return to the friendly confines of
Covina District Field, where they will host the Santa Fe Chiefs. Kickoff for both contests is scheduled for 7:00 PM.

Rsmd coach Castaneda actually came down to visit the feeder program in Rosemead last night and covered exactly that, kids splintering to different schools.

@ Current Player Dad aka Current Coach Dad,
First off, I didn’t like the old coach either so before you start accusing me of favoring someone let’s just make that clear. Second, it was hard to gather all of the points you were trying to make because of your low grammar usage so I will do my best to piece together what you said. Third, this is not a tough schedule you are facing this year. Northview is good I will definitely give you credit for that opponent. But all three of your other non league games have negative power ratings (not a tough schedule). Also, if last year doesn’t count then these first two games as the man in charge and without restriction, averaging 9.5 points per game. I was trying to help his stats by including last year but since it doesn’t count so be it. By the way, 7 points against a -24 rated South Pasadena team LOL! You heard it here first, Rosemead loses to Arroyo, South El Monte and El Monte in league!! Let’s see who we can blame at that point!! Then again, this might be the humble pie he needs to be able to grow as a coach

    @ Current Player Dad,
Relax pops!!! Old coach, new coach, 0-5 or 5-0 . It doesn’t matter. What you should be worried about is all the homegrown talent that year in and year out leaves Rosemead for a much brighter future. Until Castenada can start keeping those kids at home you’ll just be another also ran in the MVL. Get used to 4th place and no playoffs for some time.

@Area spectator also the looses now are 0-2 with old coach it was always 0-5 every year, he is the one that scheduled with tough opponents because “it makes the team better”
getting your but kicked , kids feeling bad is not a way to make them better,
he also scheduled this years. FYI you do not know $#!+

@ area spectator stop kissing (deleted) to coach last years coach, and last year doesn’t count because it was Peramo who said to put in the QB that never got one pass, one yard , one TD , and was known that Rosemead would loose all games all because he is the son of his friend and also assistant coach .
the kids rebelled against this move and gave up playing so did the coaches, do not talk on what you do to know , I welcome you to be there today at 7 PM and you and I can talk and i can tell you ion front of old HC that tibias is true.

I like how Coach Castaneda tried bashing the previous staff before the scrimmages started saying that Rosemead was out coached badly last year, especially towards the end of the season where he claims coaches checked out. Guess he forgot he was on that same staff, he was the OC if I remember correctly wasn’t he?? Lol… Time to check back in Coach!! Walks around like he’s so smart, yet only averaging 14 points a game over his last 6 games calling plays (last 4 last year, and his 2 this year).

Self-Praise is for losers. Be a winner. Stand for something. Always have class and always be humble!
