4.) The Los Angeles Angels are 72-68 and one game back for the American League’s last Wildcard spot.

6.) Kansas City Chiefs running back, Kareem Hunt.

7.) On this date: McGwire passes Maris.On September 8, 1998, Mark McGwire hit his 62nd home run of the season to break Roger Maris’ single-season record of 61 home runs, which had stood since 1961.

8.) El Monte plays San Marino tonight for the first time since 1976. In Week Three the Titans defeated the Lions, 40-16.–San Marino was led by quarterback Chris Hough’s two touchdown passes, he also ran for another. EM was sparked by Larry Wesson’s 56-yard punt return for a and with less than ten-seconds left quarterback Sal Navarro’s 67-yard scoring pass to Jesse Navarro.–The game was played on October 1 and was the Rio Hondo League opener for both schools. (In 1976 & 1977 there was a brief Mission Valley/Rio Hondo League mash up.)

9.) On this day in 1985 Pete Rose ties Ty Cobb with 4,191 hits.

10.) The battle for the “Milk Bucket” tonight at “Ron Yary Stadium”—Mayfair vs. Lakewood.

    I rarely agree with Dennis Miller’s political views, but his comment about Joel Osteen is spot-on. How could a “man of God” not open the doors of his megachurch to people fleeing the hurricane and flooding in Houston? That’s hypocrisy of the rankest order.

    Mayfair is worth a look see. Also rumor has it they have a stud QB in the pipeline that if he pans out could carry them for 4 years.
