(Covina) — Charter Oak’s defense picked off six passes, scored two touchdowns and shut out Glendora’s offense in a 28-6 win Friday night at Charter Oak High.
The Chargers’ defense was the first to score in last nights contest when the Tartans fake punt pass was picked off by Jermaine Braddock who returned it for the score.
Glendora returned the favor by picking off Jaylen Palacios’ pass in the end zone right before the first quarter ended.
The Tartans couldn’t do anything on their ensuing possession because Adrian Nava picked off Bryce Wooldrige’s pass nine seconds later.
Following a Charger interception, Palacios connected with Isiah Hamilton on the seam route for the 25-yard score. After the point after attempt, Charter Oak was up 14-0.
As the quarter continued, both offenses struggled. The Charger defensive backs Hamilton and Michael Anyanwu picked off three passes combined to end the first half.
After intermission, The Chargers wasted no time scoring on their opening possession. Palacios led his offense to an eight play, 80-yard drive going 4-4 passing on the drive that was capped off by Matt Chavez’s seven-yard run to put his team up 21-0 after the PAT midway through the third quarter.
Quarterback Jacob Gonzalez tried responding with a drive of their own but it was ended quickly when Hamilton jumped the route and hauled in his second interception of the game.
The Tartans tried to answer back but their drive ended when Mario Mora picked up Jacob Gonzalez’s fumble in the end zone, extending their lead early in the fourth quarter.
Glendora finally put points on the board when Jared Schoenick picked off Palacios’ pass and returned it for the defensive score. However, when the Tartans tried going for two, Gonzalez’s pass sailed over his receivers head in the back of the end zone.
