(Pasadena) – Pasadena went on a 28-10 run in the fourth quarter in a 69-47 rout of Narbonne Wednesday night in the first round of the CIF Division I State Tournament at Marshall High.
The Bulldogs scored just 28 points in the first half and led by four at the break and maintained that four point advantage at 41-37 heading into the final frame. Darius Brown II hit a three point shot and was fouled for a four point play to begin the fourth, Bryce Hamilton scored a bucket inside and Tavian Percy scored twice inside and just like that the lead had ballooned to 16. Omari Moore later threw down a dunk and the next thing you knew it was 20 and the rout was on.
Pasadena started off slow scoring just nine points in the first quarter and trailing 12-9 after one. They opened it up to 28-18 in the second quarter but Narbonne scored the last six points of the quarter to get within four at the break.
Hamilton led all scorers with 22 points and he also pulled down 8 rebounds. Percy finished with 20 going 9 of 12 from the field. Brown was also in doubles with 11 and dished out 10 assists. Moore had 6 points and 4 rebounds and Darius Mason had 3 points but contributed 4 blocks, 4 assists and 4 rebounds.
Hamilton’s biggest quarter was the fourth with 10 and he also buried a pair of threes in the second quarter and had eight points after being shut out in the first quarter. 11 of Percy’s 20 came in the first half.
Malik Muhammad was the man literally and figuratively for Narbonne. the 6’9″ center scored 17 points to lead the way. However the Bulldogs surrounded him and held him to just two free throws in the decisive fourth quarter. No other Gaucho was in double figures. Gerald Diggs had 7 and Donoven Lyons scored 6.
Pasadena now moves on to the second round to face Taft who surprised Torrey Pines.
