Hobbie and Titans Run Wild Through El Monte

Stellar night for Beau Hobbie in the Titans win over El Monte.

(El Monte) Beau Hobbie rushed for 245 yards and five touchdowns in the first half as the San Marino Titans played the roll of rude guests and in the end beat the El Monte Lions 76-36 Friday night at El Monte High School.

In total Hobbie carried the ball 23 times for 297 yards and six touchdowns and the Titan offense amassed 414 total rushing yards.

On the other side the El Monte offense showed what teams have been seeing early on this season. Big helpings of Davon Booth and Ben Owsley who combined for 262-yards and four scores on the ground.

San Marino wasted no time getting on the board going 68 yards on six plays with Hobbie scooting in from 27 yards away. Jordan Evans added the extra point for the 7-0 lead.

El Monte got three scores from Davon Booth but it wasn’t near enough.

El Monte only needed two plays on the ensuing drive to take the lead. Owsley took the handoff on the second play from scrimmage for the Lions and raced 65-yards to paydirt. Booth got the call and added the 2-point conversion. The 8-7 lead would be the only lead El Monte saw on the night.

Sean Richardson got in on the scoring barrage taking the ensuing kick off 82 yards for the touchdown and with Evans’ extra point, the Titans had the lead again.

San Marino scored two more times in the quarter on a scoop and score of an Owsley fumble by Keaton Heimerl and a 16-yard run by Hobbie.

El Monte countered with a score of its own on a 65-yard run by Booth. Booth finished the night gaining 151 yards on 14 carries with three total scores.

When the teams got a chance to catch their breath at the end of the first quarter, San Marino was up 28-16.

The teams traded scores to begin the second period on a one yard run by who else, Hobbie, and an 86-yard kick return by Booth.

Two more Hobbie scores and a 33-yard touchdown run by Booth put the score at 49-30 with 5:00 left in the half.

The Titans capped the first half touchdown barrage with a 42-yard touchdown strike from Kade Wentz to Wheeler Smith.

The Lions got the ball to start the second half but were unable to produce much yardage and gave up the ball on downs at the San Marino 44.

San Marino took advantage of the good field position and marched 66-yards on five plays with none other than Hobbie getting the call from seven yards out. Evans’ leg must have been a little tired after all the work he was getting and he missed the extra point this time.

El Monte got its final score of the night on a 16-yard run by Owsley. The two point conversion failed and the Lions trailed 69-36. Owsley totaled 111 yards and the two touchdowns.

The Titans final two scores came on a 24-yard run by Wheeler and a two-yard run by Connor Short who came on late to replace Wentz.

San Marino will return home next week to take on Santa Fe while El Monte will travel to Perris , CA to meet Orange Vista.

    Annonymous,

Nobody’s doubting that Arroyo gets the talent in El Monte…the question is why? These days with open enrollment, and 8th graders getting to choice to the school they wish, can you blame kids for choosing Arroyo over their other options? Arroyo has won for a long time. They have a program. Its up to the others to catch up. If they make poor choices, you can’t blame Arroyo, nor the kids that choose Arroyo over the others. The district makes them stay in the same league, again, not Arroyo’s fault. They play the hand they are dealt, and do better with it than most.

Last year SEM lost by a point. The year before by 3 touchdowns. The three years before that, blowouts. What do you mean you can hang with Arroyo?
You said it earlier. The El Monte schools lose good players to Arroyo yearly. Arroyo routinely has the most kids tryout for football and has the most talent in the MVL. Bozo’s like Friday Night can say it’s “good coaching” or “hard work” but talent will win out 9 times out of 10. Arroyo gets the best of the best every year. That’s why they have dominated the MVL. If you contest that, you’re an Arroyo homer or not from the MVL. Period.

What do you mean SEM can’t bang with Arroyo? Did you not watch the last two games? Two very close competitive games separated only by special teams blunders both years. I agree Arroyo head shoulders has more talent year in and year out. But we can bang with them. A big thing for me to see is if our lower levels are good because that will indicate if kids stayed in our boundaries or are still jumping ship up north. In my opinion the difference with Arroyo is addition by subtraction. They add about a dozen kids every year to their team that should otherwise go to EM,SEM or Mt View. Which obviously kills the competition. The only reason why SEM was so good the couple years was because the kids stayed in boundary.

    Buttercup,
The past two years you’ve also had bye weeks vs EM, MV, Marshall, Gab, Rosemead, Temple City, and Rowland. We also all know SEM can’t bang with you guys. That makes about 8 bye weeks in a season! Covina and Schurr are good opponents. Hart was a big one that your pops doesn’t schedule for obvious reasons. He thought Aguilar would be a Bonita and that would have been a great win but they got a real coach and that became a loss. If you guys want real respect then beat a Bonita, San Dimas, Glendora, or Charter Oak. You’re D8 you should beat Covina and Schurr. Instead of scheduling a powerhouse you guys scheduled Nogales who we knew would not be a contender. That’s my two cents. As far as “challenging” the other MVL teams, EM went out and recruited. They’re going to be better. If other teams had the same talent as arroyo coming in year in and year out they could find a better coach and would have more success.

EM doesn’t play D b/c they don’t practice it. As far as SM they will coast the rest of the way. Their league isn’t good either. But it’s not as bad as the MVL! Newport may be the only team that has a chance to get them.

Hey Cupcake, who would like us to play? SJB, MD? Name a school that has better preseason schedule? Comparably of course. We played Covina Schurr Hart Bonita Rowland Nogales? The last two years! As far as league…you want us to change leagues? How about bashing the other MVL teams to step up their game! They all know who big brother is!!! Catch up or get left behind compete or get out of the way! I’m beating a dead horse here but SEM just cleared out a staff that did nothing but win football games now they’ll be lucky to finish in fourth place! A typical move by MVL teams that keeps them always playing for second place.

The only thing Friday Knights knows how to do is keep the players behind the lines, assist the assistant, and move the chains. Don’t sweat him. He’s a nobody! Usually when I troll him on a thread he stops responding. If he (or she) responds it’s usually a weak rebuttal. Enjoy your 9-1 run. D8 is waiting to get their hands on you. But don’t be surprised if EM pulls a rabbit out of their hat.

Lions can’t tackle can’t fill gaps and can’t cover anyone. Doesn’t matter what division you’re in if you can’t do those three things you can’t win.
    Arroyo
    SEM
    Rosemead
    El Monte
    Gabrielino
    Mt View
    Marshall

El Monet didn’t pass their “I belong” test. still a solid team for D13 though. It’s just take more to beat a well coached team.

Transfers only take you so far. It’s unfortunate to see a team give up 76 points. Ouchhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!

76! SEVENTY-SIX all about a reality check. EM is good but not great. The runningback is very good he’s not D1 but that’s ok he still is very good. Let’s stop the hype machine. It’s double wing offense the numbers are inflated. I just gotta ask how do you give up 76 points?
You guys made Hobbie look like D1 kid
El Monte can scorebut they can’t stop anyone.
