Marshall Cancels Remainder of Football Season

By Tim Peterson

(Pasadena) – Pasadena Marshall has canceled the remainder of its football season the administration confirmed Wednesday.

The Eagles started off the season 0-3 and were outscored 174-9 in the process. They were reportedly down to about 20 players and with player attrition it would have been impossible to continue.

Marshall was scheduled to start Mission Valley League play this week against South El Monte. All MVL teams could either find another opponent or take the forfeit win but they all had to agree to one of the options.

“We were told it’s all or nothing. Everyone takes a forfeit or everyone finds a game. So then the issue became how is the team that plays MHS first supposed to find a week 4 game at this late stage? Two days to find a team, get film, practice…impossible. once that was realized the forfeit became a reality,” said Arroyo head coach Jim Singiser.
As a result all MVL teams are forced to play a nine-game schedule.

A school should be forced to provide a roster of a minimum of 35 players with 75% being upper classmen in order to play 11 man football.

They got whacked by Village Christian, a very bad team that is emerging from the ashes of a canceled season last year. Did anybody see the video of the Village Christian kid running all over them on Fred Roggin’s show? The only thing more embarrassing than Marshall’s performance on that play was Village bragging about it. Marshall has been bad for a long time, it shouldn’t come as any surprise.

If you apply for a job, and write on the application that you graduated high school, I guarantee your interviewer will not bother to check if that’s true. Wipe away the wishful thinking here and you have to admit that today’s 9-12 experience is mostly day-care for virtual adults in which some incidental learning may take place.
The only thing that goes on in these places that comports with reality is SPORTS. And yes, football is king. You can hope and wish otherwise, but you’re kidding yourself and wasting everyone’s time: football is still king. Take away high school football, for example, and where does that leave Tim Peterson and his MVS operation?
So absolutely, I get pissed when the brown-noses and back-stabbers employed by these places presume to be kings and queens of sports as well. They need to stick to their world-changing game plans for history, government and social studies instruction.

It really was a stupid question. If you read the article it says “All MVL teams could either find another opponent or take the forfeit win but they all had to agree to one of the options.” That is not at all ambiguous. Reading Comprehension 101

Don’t know much about the area or where the schools are located from each other and I know they would never do this but to give the kids the opportunity to play they should let Marshall and Blair combine their programs, like I said I know they would never do this but the kids who want to play should have the opportunity to do so and they reason I know they would never let this happen is because it would be the right thing to do and heaven forbid they do something for the kids.

@Wow. Do you really think that the worth of a public school system should be anchored on the successes and failures of a football program? I’d say again that our society must be incredibly fragile if the American cultural framework hinged on whether or not a school fields a football team. Also, it’s a bit misleading to compare Marshall University (which took a year to field another team) to Marshall high school.

For sure it was not a very smart question. Just didn’t see why T. Peterson couldn’t just clarify without the holier-than-thou attitude.

Of those 20 players I’d guess as many as half of them really love football and would love to play. Because their school district is fully a piece of ____ these players should be allowed to join other football programs while still attending Marshall. And coaches at other schools should agree to it.

Careful what you say to or ask of . Peterson.. you might hurt his feelings and he won’t let you post anymore.

All you had to say was “forfeit win” Mr. Peterson. The quote didn’t say forfeit win or loss and all the reader wanted was clarification; going so far as to say they might have read it wrong or misinterpreted it.

LOL you sound like Professor Snap with that us of “obviously”…

Unless a Miracle happens Blair will most likely be closing all together in 2019. It’s sad that a city with all that revenue has one of the worst school districts. But if you keep it real the people in charge and the people who can fix it probably have their kids in private schools.

This is the future of hs football. Look at our area. Pick the schools where 5 years from now football is no longer played.

Wait, let me get this straight: a team whose opponent cancels their football program is penalized because they cannot find a substitute, and now has a forfeit loss on their schedule? Which all would agree is unfair. Or did I read it wrong and I’m to interpret that the team is given a forfeit win? Please clarify?
    From T. Peterson: Forfeit win….obviously.

Man sloppy sloppy.. I picture Marshall is the same as Blair. Both teams can’t build competitive rosters in the city of Pasadena.. not even Muir and phs can keep their players they leave the district

Shocked to hear of this development, particularly because the team shares its name with a collegiate unit that found a way to carry on after ALL its players were gone. This reveals the worth of the public school system in all its splendor.
