(Pasadena)— Brentwood quarterback Cole Lourd threw for 245 yards and tossed two touchdowns in the Eagles 42-9 win over Maranatha Friday night at Maranatha High school.

To start the game, Maranatha opened it by going on an onside kick, which was successful. The Minutemen turned the trick play into an early 3-0 lead after Jacob Kefalas’ 45-yard field goal. At that point, Brentwood rallied for 21 straight points in the first quarter to take a commanding lead.

Lucian Broady got the scoring going when he took the handoff and outran the defenders for the 17-yard score. On the ensuing possession, Jack Tobey took the handoff and bulldozed his way for his first touchdown of the night. Finally, before the end of the quarter, Lourd scrambled out of the pocket and connected with Devin Aglubat for a 50-yard score.

The Minutemen were able to cut into the lead midway into the second when their special teams blocked a Brentwood punt to help set up Zack McClendon’s 11-yard touchdown run but they couldn’t convert on the 2-point conversion.

The Eagles wasted no time to return the favor when Lourd connected with Agulabat running the receiver screen and took it to the house from 80 yards out, less than a minute after Maranatha’s touchdown drive.

The Minutemen tried to answer back on their next possession but quarterback Enrique Graza was under pressure the entire night and was sacked nine times in the ball game.

Brentwood went into halftime up 28-9.

Following the break, the Eagles continued to pound the ball to add their lead. Broady took the inside handoff and walked into the end zone to put the game away with 1:17 left in the third quarter. Brentwood added another score late in garbage time to put the score at 42-9 after the PAT in the fourth quarter.
