Schurr Enough, Spartans Beat Alhambra

(Alhambra) – Nathaniel Palacios scored on a three-yard run with 46 seconds left to lift Schurr to a 27-23 win over Alhambra Friday night at Moor Field.

Palacios set up the score on a fourth and 12 play completing a 40 yard strike to Ray Whitney which gave the Spartans a first and goal at the three. He then finished it himself.

Schurr held a 13-10 halftime advantage and extended it to 20-10 in the third quarter on seven-yard scoring pass from Palacios to Jeremiah Hartfield. Alhambra rallied in the fourth quarter as Noah Rodriguez threw two touchdown passes. He hit Raul Cortez on a 62-yard bomb to give the Moors a 23-20 lead with 4:36 left. The Spartans then mounted their winning drive.

Palacios completed 22 of 41 for 266 yards and a touchdown while also throwing an interception. He also rushed for two scores. Hartfield had 13 receptions for 162 yards and a score. Isaiah Contreras rushed for 129 yards and a touchdown on 24 carries. The Spartans had 393 total yards.

For the Moors Rodriguez was 18 of 36 for 240 yards and two touchdowns. Cortez had six catches for 145 yards and a touchdown. Alhambra relying on the air attack, rushed for only 41 yards.

Schurr improved to 2-4 overall and 1-0 in the Almont while Alhambra lost its first game of the season and is 5-1, 0-1 in league.

    Our quarterback, Noah Rodriguez, is a freshman, and he’s still a bit on the short side. A lot of those defensive linemen are taller, hence the rollouts.
    Noah stands in there and does a pretty good job throwing those slants, though, and he can throw the deep ball from out of the pocket or on the run.

    You guys only had the rollout throw thats it! Embrassing. Make sure to get third place because thats what you’ve been doing for the past years!

    Please do not stop. Offense was not anything special. Guru was held to 7 points in the second half. And defense is not much better. Couldn’t stop one play we ran. You guys will come in third place
