[Yorba Linda] – El Monte’s offense, with just 29 plays on the night, rushed for 463 yards in a 57-14 victory over Fairmount Prep in the CIF quarterfinals Friday night at Yorba Linda High School.
Abel Cueva has just four carries on the night but made the most of them finding the end zone three times and 163 yards.
El Monte had two other 100 yard rushers on the night. Davon Booth had 5 carries for 109 yards and a score, while Ben Owsley had 4 touches for 112 yards and 2 trips to paydirt.
Carlos Zuira and Nathan Velasquez also found the end zone for the Lions.
Fairmount Prep fought hard with just 19 players on the roster. Brian Wright picked up his quarterbacks fumble and returned it for a touchdown midway through the first quarter. In the fourth quarter Kyle Karam found Jason Terry for a 9-yard score.
El Monte (11-1) advances to the semi finals for the first time since 1979 and will face Adelanto (11-1) at home.

Scoring 36 points on a team that’s like 4-5 higher divisions sounds alright to me. Promise you that a team like south or arroyo plays them, they score maybe 1 touchdown if they’re lucky lol
It is funny how winning a few games at D13 makes fans drunk with power. El Monte would roll NV and Glendora? Like they rolled San Marino?
Ok, point taken. Maybe he did some good things. Why didn’t he stay put???? Roll Glendora and Northview????? You are delusional. When you say roll you imply that they would blow them out. That’s ridiculous.
It’s funny because I hear the weekly phone calls from chino people saying how they miss coach c and staff and how the new staff are bums and they bring in different guys weekly that aren’t cleared. Henry should of been a stud and you guys wasted him.
This team would roll up that D8 Chino team. Can’t coach toughness, with that whole soft community.
@Anon
The only team on that list that would beat El Monte is South Hills. The lions would roll Glendora and NV. The lions run the true version of the double wing. In order to stop them you have to be willing to sacrifice your kids to a constant pounding. Most teams can’t handle that. I played for coach markham and let me tell you. When that offense is rolling it doesn’t matter who you are. You can’t stop it.
You must be a disgruntled Chino parent. Did you forget about the 2015 season? Went 9-3 and lost to a loaded Summit team by 4 points. He tried to coach up your kids, but unfortunately your pop Warner mentality of starting football in August couldn’t be changed. The El Monte kids are willing to work and have done so since he arrived! So don’t hate now that he gone and you managed to win 2 games this year. All of you should spend less time posting and get your kids in the weight room. It works!
South El Monte recruits kids? What are you talking about??
Roar, don’t give too much credit. They are superior athletes in a lower division. They would not do this damage against the likes of Glendora, Northview, or South Hills. Look what your boy did at Chino. Nada! All of a sudden he decided to coach kids up. C’mon.
Maybe CIF can help Gabrielino get a ring next season. I agree with Anony, if EM wins D13 it doesn’t feel “genuine”.
You sound like a female. These kids have known of those EM coaches for a while and they get to play for them. I want you to go look at their stats from last year on all those great transfers we got. Those kids got coached up and are in a good system for them. Just cause you can’t reach past Arcadia and South transfers you get here and there. While the El Monte Express keeps rolling buy a ticket. #LongVergaLions
Fridayknights you didn’t say this two years ago when Arroyo was in D12!!!! You have to prove you can win in order to move up or down a division!!! I can guarantee that El Monte will not be in D13 next year!!!
Why are people crying about the division EM is in, They weren’t complaining when south n arroyo were running up the score on EM, as far as the recruiting goes lets not pretend like arroyo n south havent done the same, it is what it is, like they tell MV n EM “get better” well they’re better so put you big boy pants on n stop their pop warner offense
Really Get Back Coach? You’re asking for parity when Arroyo has been the benefactor of being a big fish in a small pond for years? The only reason your pops has a ring is because you were given the gift of being in D12. C’mon that year Rosemead was in 11. How did that happen?! As far as saying “two wins and you win a title,” that’s the same as your league championships as of late. Beat SEM two years in a row and win league. No one else in the league was close. Without this format Arroyo continues to be a one a done team in the playoffs. When your guys made your run in 12 we wanted to see how good you could have been in the division you belonged in, 11. Don’t say you’re not hating when you really are. Yes they recruited, yes a lot of shady stuff probably happened to get the boys there. Like you have been saying for years, they can only play who is in front of them. What would you like EM to do? Skip this process and break rules because they have a good squad? It’s fun to think what if but it’s not realistic. If they have guts they’ll do what your pops doesn’t do and play a hard non league schedule. Heck schedule a Glendora or Charter Oak. That would be fun. Not like Arroyo and schedule Rowland and Nogales. Anyone that knows what’s up knows that if and when EM wins CIF it won’t be genuine. The staff has done a lot of good things but the fact remains that without their transfers they are not 11-1. MAYBE a semi finals team but that’s it. They probably lose to arroyo! Don’t be that guy. Bite your tongue, we know it hurts you to see EM win. You and your pops better get back to the drawing board real quick because EM will continue to recruit and if you blink there will be a new king in the MVL.
@Fridayknights
Your comments are ironic. Since the very same thing was said about your team the year you won CIF. And you and the rest of your homes cried and cried. So if it was wrong to say it about the Arroyo chumps than its wrong to make that argument now. Don’t be mad!!! You’ll be playing for 2nd place for awhile now. Enjoy your Thanksgiving watching the Lions win a ring.
@friday knights, all of sudden you want CIF to make changes. When it benefited you guys for a ring it was all good. You’re a joke, take your 1 and done sorry self elsewhere…
Ugh… yaaaawwwwwwnnnnn
The playoffs for El Monte start on Friday there’s two other teams that might have a chance….. maybe. Adelanto and Orange. EM could win a ring playing in only two games. I think it’s time CIF made changes. It’s Obvious EM should be in D8 or even as low as D5. CIF should place teams in divisions after the season has been played. Then teams who snatch up kids from Las Vegas won’t have an unfair advantage. You want to recruit that’s fine but you will be placed accordingly. What do you guys think? I’m really not taking away from the kittens but don’t we wanna see just how good they are? Are they a semi finalist in D10? Or in D8? I think so. Kinda silly to keep them in 13 and they just wreck teams am I right?
El Monte is rolling! They just might win this thing. Good luck lions. Keep it up
No where near that San Marino. But I agree will be a great game.
I heard the they had 18 players! What the?! EM and the transfer express wins CIF.
Having to play with just 14 capable players in a quarter final is stupid and dangerous. This was not a win but a forfeit played out to make CIF a few bucks.
Adelanto vs El Monte is going to be a great game… Adelanto has lots of speed last time EM saw this speed was early in the season when they played San Marino and we all know how that went … EM has that great offensive line and don’t forget about the 3 headed monster in Devon Booth, Abel Cueva and Oswley
Don’t understand why a coaches would choose to have there defensive line try and cut the offensive Line on a double wing team it does not work you have less people getting to the ball makes no sense ….. you must fly to the ball ..
